Hi, everyone. I've just re-joined this list. My surnames are CORDER RUSH THOMAS STEELE SHOCKEY. Now for a pressing question! As I begin to write up my research, I continue to find missing research. Perhaps someone on this list can help. I found a land grant in Section 11 for Reuben Corder in 1874 listed in "The Original Land Grants for Crawford County" by Sue Clark. However, the actual parcel was not listed. The parcel was also not listed in Crawford County Deeds. There was no asterisk next to the listing, indicating it was not a land warrant. I am correct in assuming R Corder probably applied for a homestead then lost the homestead? My only clue as to where this land might have been is in a narrative written for the Crawford Co. Historical Society on the origins of the Rose Family. Abe Corder owned the place where Grace Jones Hill was raised. ... Abe Corder had ... a house about 100 yards down [sic] from where Grace Hill lived. It stood on the east side of the old stage road. From what I can tell, County Rd 183 turns into Cain Rd. Belmont Drive goes east off of this road then turns and continues north-south along the western boundary of Section 11.then turns east again just a bit south of the southern boundary of Section 11. Is the north-south portion of this road that goes along the edge of Section 11 the Old Stage Coach Route? If not, then can someone tell me where the route was for the old stage coach? Abe Corder owned land that straddled the boundaries of Secs 3 and 10. So the description of the house just might be a house his father Rueben Corder built while working at getting his homestead. By 1880 Reuben and his wife were living with Abe and his family. Any ideas?
