When my parents left OK in 1936, one of the results was that the younger generations pretty completely lost track of the older ones under the impact of the Depression, Dust Bowl, distance, old age and death and WWI, when travel was so restricted and the telecommunications pretty restricted. We didn't use long distance much in those days, anyway. Taking up th tasks of reconstructing a family history as I grow older myself, in retirement and a long way from my parents' scenes, I find that barely-remembered stories from my mother, which in those earlier times we paid little attention to, and often scoffed at, are among now among my most valued resources. If only we had paid more attention at the time....and asked a few more questions then.
