    3. Happy New Year!!! I am searching for my ancestors.....ANDERSON , COLLIER, POLK, RATLIFF Henry M. Anderson was near Mt. Ida and Hot Springs. Taylor Polk will be in the same area. He married Prudence Anderson, Henry's sister. Martin Collier moved to Arkansas about 1812. He married Mary Bell Anderson, no relations to the mentioned Henry Anderson. They came from Logan , KY. By 1820 they were settled in to their home near Mt. Ida. Martin died by 1823. The first white child born in that area of the country was Jefferson Collier, who spent his entire life there. t John Ratliff came into Washington and Crawford Counties with his four sons before 1830. They settled in those counties. John Ratliff is said to have died in Crawford County in 1832. I am looking for a headstone, a gravesite, proof of death in some manner. Henry M. Anderson and wife Sarah Collier left Arkansas for Texas in 1840. There would be a Henry Anderson, grandfather of Henry Madison Anderson that might be in the same county and a James Anderson, father of Henry is also there. They died in Arkansas, I am told. If there are any listings in " History in Headstones" I would be most grateful if you could pass them along. Thanks, JoRetta Lewis

    1. NEWS FLASH FROM 1852..Resolutions solve genealogical Mysteries
    2. Diana Boothe
    3. This is for those of you who have struggled to find that George, James, John, Henry or William over the years...... . It is New Year's Eve 1852 and Henry HYDENWELL sits at his desk by candlelight. He dips his quill pen in ink and begins to writes his New Year's resolutions. 1. No man is truly well-educated unless he learns to spell his name at least three different ways within the same document. I resolve to give the appearance of being extremely well-educated in the coming year. 2. I resolve to see to it that all of my children will have the same names that my ancestors have used for six generations in a row. 3. My age is no one's business but my own. I hereby resolve to never list the same age or birth year twice on any document. 4. I resolve to have each of my children baptized in a different church -- either in a different faith or in a different parish. Every third child will not be baptized at all or will be baptized by an itinerant minister who keeps no records. 5. I resolve to move to a new town, new county, or new state at least once every 10 years -- just before those pesky enumerators come around asking silly questions. 6. I will make every attempt to reside in counties and towns where no vital records are maintained or where the courthouse burns down every few years. 7. I resolve to join an obscure religious cult that does not believe in record keeping or in participating in military service. 8. When the tax collector comes to my door, I'll loan him my pen, which has been dipped in rapidly fading blue ink. 9. I resolve that if my beloved wife Mary should die, I will marry another Mary. 10. I resolve not to make a will. Who needs to spend money on a lawyer? Happy New Year, everyone! :o) Take Care, Diana List Admin

    2. JoRetta Lewis
    3. Thanks for the response. My John Ratliff left Virginia in the early 1800's. Was in Illinois by 1810 where they stayed for awhile and landed in Arkansas, Crawford and Washington Counties before 1830. His four sons, William, James, Thompson and Jobe all in tow. The boys married along the way. William cut off for Missouri. He and his descendents can be traced pretty well there. The other three came into Texas by about 1850, possibly a year or so earlier and have remained there. Their children went into other areas of Texas....and most can be traced.....Old John however, died in Arkansas....supposedly in Crawford County and is buried there. I would like to find the proof of his being there, ie: tac records, or something... and hopefully where he is buried. If I run across your Ratliff...will send up a signal. Have a wonderful and safe New Year. ----- Original Message ----- From: OkiegrlGG@aol.com<mailto:OkiegrlGG@aol.com> To: ARCRAWFO-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:ARCRAWFO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 31, 2005 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [ARCRAWFORD] NY's Resolutions - Reply to RATLIFF In a message dated 12/31/2005 10:52:47 A.M. 3. Rachel, I checked all the Bryant surnames in "History in Headstones." I did not find a Rachel Bryant. A couple of possible explanations. She doesn't have a legible headstone. Since Bidville is very near other counties perhaps she is buried in another county.
