    3. Hello: I am looking for the gravesite of JOHN RATLIFF ( also has been spelled Raetliffe, Radcliffe and Ratliffe) He was born about 1750 in Virginia and died between 1833-1834 in Crawford County, Arkansas. He had sons living in both Crawford county and Washington County so he could be buried in any of the cemeteries in those counties. 3. Hi Linda, yes my brother and i went to the cemetery this winter, the garden had lots of turnips growing with rabbits everywhere. We walked the cemetery but did not get to write down the names as it was awfully cold, not as many snakes and ticks then. My ggrandparents are buried there Levi and Levicy Brown, their headstones are gone but my brother retires this year and next winter we are making new ones to put down there and we plan on clearing the cemetery a little at a time. If its muddy you cant get down the lane. Back in the 70's my aunt took me down there to show me where they were buried, it was being taken care of then and really looked nice. It sure would be nice if people could be stopped from destroying the cemetery but I kind of doubt that as it is one of those forgotten cemeteries, I think the last person buried there was a Nash in the 70's as there was a huge new headstone there in the 70's i didnt see it this time as i used it for a landmark to find my fami! lys burial. Thanks Sharon

    1. My sister and I are researching our Meadows / Meadors ancestors and are interested in the escapades of Jacob Worth Meadows, Gideon Stephens, Andrew Meadows, Elisha Meadows and Benjamin Bewley. It appears they were Union sympathizers and were stealing stock and being generally unruly (according to one account!), however I do believe it was more serious than that. One story is that a John Meadows was hung by Confederate guerillas, and George W. Baker Meadows had his home vandalized and his stock stolen. The above mentioned Union sympathizers then retaliated against the Confederates. I know there are some newspaper articles between the years of 1866 - 1871 regarding these events. Would anyone have access to these? Or would anyone have an idea how I can search these records without taking a trip to Crawford County or Little Rock? I live about 8 hours away by car and my sister lives in Washington. Thank you so much for any advice you can give us. By the way, we were born in Illinois and grew up in Texas. We have no allegiance to either side YET! Thanks. Amy amywmurphy@earthlink.net EarthLink Revolves Around You.

    3. Kathleen, I called Giles at the Eagle Crest Gold Club just now to see if he knew the township for Bolton Cemetery. The lines have changed but he is rather sure it is in Lafayette Township. Bolton Cemetery is in that area near the intersection of Dean Road and Firehouse Road. Amberwood Way is just east of the Cemetery. I have a first cousin buried there. The old Whitley township boundary is a little east of there, but is close enough. Whitley township is named after Whitley County (Williamsburg area) Kentucky. Many families from Whitley County, Ky (Creekmore, Meadors, Stephens, etc) came to that area after the Civil War and settled there. My wife (Virginia) is a Creekmore/Stephens. Virginia and I volunteered to be the editors of the Crawford County Genealogical Society publication. Would love to catch up on the O.Kelley/Smith/Steward family. The old Lark place where I live (Walker School Road) was a part of the Steward place that William got from his application to the U.S. Land Office, August 2, 1860. There is a John S. Jones, born 12-15-1834-died 7-7-1902 in Bolton Cemetery. Bolton may or may not be in Whitley twsp, as township lines move with the population increase. The township may have been Whitley, in 1902 and be something else now. I do know it would have been near or in the Old Belmont town or community. Gail, good to see you on the list, helping people. 3. Duncan, I might help you on Whitley County, Ky. I do know the Siler fellow at the Genealogy Society there. They have quite a bit of family records in their Library. They also have a "head stones" book. You can get it from the Whitley County Agricultural Extension Service in Williamsburg, Ky. Good luck Gail Cowart Extension Service is just across the train tracks from the Genealogy Library and museum. Actually the Library an Museum is in the old Williamsburg train station . It is now owned by Cumberland College and leased to the Society. -----Original Message----- From: WallDuncan@aol.com [mailto:WallDuncan@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2006 6:23 PM To: ARCRAWFO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ARCRAWFORD] Love Cemetery Thanks a zillion...Bolton Cemetery seems to be a hit for both John Speed Jones, req 1902, and for the mysterious Mariam Jones, his wife, both born in Whitley County, KY, where records are even thinner than in Crawford County. 3. Baxter cemetery is located east of Van Buren towards Kibler, it is close to the river bottoms. I go there in the winter to check on my ggrandparents grave, too snaky during the other months, it has always been vandalized and ignored but relatives of people buried there that live here take care of the areas where their people are buried there are lots of old old stones there. Thanks Sharon
