In case you didn't receive this personally, some VERY important news pertaining to RootsWeb......... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear RootsWeb mailing list subscriber, We are excited to announce that in the coming weeks, the RootsWeb.com mailing lists will be moving to a new list management system. Why? The new list management system offers updated technology, better spam control, and more efficient hosting of the lists. When? All the lists won't be updated all at once. In fact, once we start it will take us about two weeks to complete the process. We've posted the additional details about the update and a current update schedule at the link below. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html This page can also be found by following the link found on http://lists.rootsweb.com. If there are any changes to the schedule, we'll update this page to let you know. How will it Affect You? Your current subscription(s) will automatically transfer to the new system so there will be no need to re-subscribe to your list(s), however, because the sending and receiving of list email will be handled by a new system, you may notice a few changes to your list(s). Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume and issue numbers of the list digests. The "-L" is being dropped from the "official" list name. This means the "from" address your mailing list emails come from will be slightly different- ListName@rootsweb.com vs. the current ListName-L@rootsweb.com. You may have to adjust your spam filters or put the new address on your "accept" list to prevent it from being caught in your "junk" folder. This sounds like a big change, but it doesn't have to change the way you use the list. Here's why: - You will still be able to send messages to the list using the "ListName-L@rootsweb.com" email address you use today. Additionally, you can choose to drop the "-L" and send your messages to ListName@rootsweb.com. Both addresses will work after the list has been migrated. - You will still be able to subscribe and unsubscribe to the mail or digest mode by sending your request to ListName-L-request@rootsweb.com or ListName-D-request@rootsweb.com as you do today. You will also be able to unsubscribe from the mail or digest mode by sending your "unsubscribe" message to LISTNAME-request@rootsweb.com. The tools that list administrators use to manage their list will also be changing. If you are a list admin, you will be contacted in an additional email on Monday with more details and a link to a tutorial. We're excited about the improvements to the lists because we feel confident that they will ensure that the mailing lists continue to run smoothly for years to come. We appreciate your patience while we make this transition and hope that the RootsWeb mailing lists will continue to be a valuable tool in your genealogy research. Thanks, The Rootsweb Staff ********************************************** You received this message from RootsWeb as a one-time email notification of upcoming changes to the mailing list(s) you subscribe to.

Thanks...I will try to keep track of you...I have found twoancestry lines, on my grandmother's side, from Lafayette County...both big planters with a large stock of slaves...Garland, from the part of Lafayette confused by being off and on in Miller..there are two remnant communities from the old plantation site....and Lee,east of the river, with holdings near 'Old Lewisville', and both Lees and Garlands buried in the Lee Cemetery...which appears to be the site of that old plantation house...

Yes, please keep in touch. Even small clues sometimes lead to bigger ones. There is a CORDER family that also migrated to KY from Whitley County, KY. My Uncle John was in Whitley Twp in 1910 as was Berlin Graham who appears to have been the father-in-law to John's sister Margaret. Uncle John was living with Margaret and her husband in 1900 in Lafayette Twp. A Thomas Corder hh was also in Whitley Co in 1910 and 50 hh away from the Berlin Graham family and 88 hh away from my Uncle John Corder's hh. Thomas was from MO and his parents were from KY, so he may have been a descendant of a John Corder who m. Elizabeth Mahoney in Shenandoah Co, VA. They moved to Harrison Co. KY by 1820. In 1900, my only ancestors left in Lafayette twp. was John Corder who was living with his sister Margaret Graham and her husband Thomas Graham. Two other Corder hhs were also in Lafayette Twp.--Nimrod and Wm Corder. Nimrod (who was 22 hh away from my ancestors) and Wm Corder were from Whitley Co. KY. Later, a Robert Corder m. in Crawford Co. He appears to have been related to Nimrod. One of Thomas Graham's sisters believed that Robert was a cousin to my Uncle John and Aunt Margaret. However, we have never found any proof. Janette, I would appreciate it if you could check in your Arkansas Land Patent Book, Crawford County, for any HUGHES and HENDERSON names. My grandfather (George Washington HUGHES) and some of his siblings were supposed to have been born in Alma, Arkansas crica 1875-1890. This family has been fairly elusive, so any help will be appreciated. Researching family history of HELMS, HUGHES, WINKLEPLECK, CLARK, MILLER, MORGAN, HENDERSON, LOCKHART
Janette, would you have a Julia Hughes in your family tree? She was born about 1860 and married by 1876. She was in Saline co.on the 1880 census married to John Richard Herndon and a daughter , Sarah or Sallie. I am trying to find her parents. I posed the same question to him and haven't received an answer yet. I figure I can at least try to track down the microfilm and transcribe them. All of mine were from Franklin County and as much information that these records contain I would LOVE to see what they say! Go back to the census record, pull up the image and the magnifying glass tool in the toolbar at the top, and look at the image of the original census taker's sheet in detail...noting extra detail, and who is adjacent on the sheet--probable neighbors, but also boarders and other extra members of the household...do you have a set of Ancestry.Com's 'headings' sheets? it will save you scrolling up and down, which is hard to do without losing your place.... Looking for information on William Higgs born abt 1799 in VA he is living in Crawford Co on the 1850, 1860 & 1870 census can't find him before or after this date. His wife was Margaret or Peggy and had a sons William & John and daughter Elizabeth she was born in IL abt 1840 any information would be wonderful. The Carlilse surname intertwines with this family I believe there might have also been an older daughter named Mary who married a Carlilse (Carlile). Thank you! Robin Smith

I am not very good about the history of the area, but I have grandparents buried in the Bolton Cemetery, and for a long time had no clue about why the census data and my mother's old 'Belmont' address were no help in dealing with them, and if it's OK with you, I'd like to stay in touch. My wife and I are expecting to visit the area, and specificall Bolton Cemetery, in early October. My great grandparents were named Jones--John Speed Jones and his wife Mariam, who immigrated from Whitley County KY late in the 1800's, apparently with others from Whitley County, and named their township Whitley Township. My grandfather was Philos Stratton Jones, federal judge-commissioner at the federal Choctaw courts in Pocolo, IT/OK, and later at Whitefield, IT/OK, where my mother was born in 1899. I have located some distant cousins, from Arkansas ancestry, at Spiro, OK Duncan Wall 50 Ancient Way Yarmouth Port, MA 02675-1201 508-362-3359 EM: _WallDuncan@AOL.COM_ (mailto:WallDuncan@AOL.COM)
Hi Folks, I was just thinking. Perhaps I need to be asking a different question. JR Meador's land and Abe Corder's land were in Section 3 and 10. I am looking for clues regarding a pieice of land in Section 11. The current county road passes along the western boundary of Section 11. Jones Hill's description of Abe Corder's house indicates it was on the east side of the old stage coach road. Does anyone know if the present county road that follows the boundary of Section 11 follows the path of the old stagecoach road? If not, do you know where it was when it was near the old Belmont Post Office? Any local historians on our list? Thanks, Nancy
