    3. Very much so... thank you! The Columbus and John W. are really Kirks... I wondered if they went by the last name of James... Sarah and John W. James were married in 1885 so William F. James is either a Kirk or she had a child before she married the father. Lot's of interesting family history I am finding out... 2. Dear Evadean: We do seem to have some kind of tangle of messaging among you, me, and someone named Cowart in authority at the Crawford County Genealogical Society. I have written to her trying to get straightened out. If you did get a message from me, it was meant helpfully, but may have included wrong info. If so, I am sorry--it was meant with good intent. Good luck with your search--it does seem my people (Jones GGrandparents and grandfather) did in fact live not far away from your people, although long gone on ahead.. She is very smart on this line and has written many books one being on the Natural Dam area. At the time she is waiting on extra copies from the printers. I have heard that Sarah was a Larrimore. I found census for 1850, with Thomas and his wife Martha. Would like any info that can be dug-up about James and Sarah: Like when they were married? Died? etc. Thanks for any help given that can fill in the blanks. 2. LINDA BROWN
    3. My grandfather Eliga/Elijah Palmore Hall, known as Lige or E.P., was born in 1877. He was apparently born to a FRANKLIN, but by the 1880 census, he had already been adopted by Louis H. Hall and was named after Louis's father. I can't find any Franklin families who lived in Crawford County in 1870 or 1880. Does anyone know of a Franklin family who was in Crawford County or in the Sallisaw, OK, area between 1877 and 1880? Also, my aunt said that several of the Hall family members were buried in a cemetery on a hill that flooded out and slid into the river and disappeared many years ago. She doesn't know the name of the cemetery and I can't find any record of it or any mention of the Halls in the cemetery records. Do you know anything about that? Missing Halls are Louis H. Hall - died about 1909, possibly Ida Hall (probably died between 1891 and 1899), Nancy Hall (died 1890), Gracy Catherine Elinor Hall (died between 1903 and 1909), Hannah Hall (probably died before 1880), and maybe a couple of baby boys who died between 1903 and 1910). Thank you. Linda in California

    3. This is in my research area and I have a lot of information on my county, I will help you. Natural Dam, one of the first settlements in Crawford County, was appropriately names after the distinctive natural scenic features of a solid bed of limestone, six to eight feet thick, which stretches across the width of Mountain Fork Creek to form a natural barrier to the descent of water that flows down the stream a short distance from where it enters Lee's Creek W. T. Larrimore first settled in 1817 and build first mill on the west side of the dam. The book says some remains of this mill are today. He sold the mill in 1838 to son-in-law, Andrew Morton and Washington DuVal. A p.o. was established by the name of Lee's Creek in 1832 with George Duval being appointed to serve 27 Dec.1838 It was then called Lee Creek The name was changed 6 Mar 1839 to Natural Dam and the following were appointed over the post office: Washington Duval, 6 Mar 1839; Andrew Morton 1 Nov 1845; Washington Duvall 31 Jan 1846 (notice the spelling) In 1880's, Mr. Boyd built a grist mill between the old and new settlement. Also he built a cotton gin but they were washed away with the flood of 1883 In the Arkansas Crawford Co Land Grant book I found Washington Duval 3 times Where he had bought land in 38 as a cash entry, 319 ac; 44 cash entry, 160 ac; and 48 as cash entry 81.840 ac. Francis M. Duvall homesteaded in 20 May 1885, 80 A. Below is a list of names taken from the 'History of Crawford Co, AR, buy Miss Clara B. Eno' Ben T. DuVal Fagan's Brigade in both Van Buren and Fort Smith listed as a Confederate soldier buried at Fairview in Van Buren. William Duval, one of men appointed by the Crawford Co court as reviewer to mark and lay off road to Ft. Smith Mrs. E. R. DuVal, dau of Dr. and Mrs. Dibrell of Van Buren (his name was Elias ) Her name was Angela Medors he was from Fort Smith Will any of this help you. I did not do any research just checked a couple of books in my office. Janette in Van Buren, I am president of the genealogy club W. Duval served one term as county treasurer in 1844 arcrawfo-request@rootsweb.com wrote: Today's Topics: 1. Natural Dam (CarolKe5@aol.com) 2.
