Thanks Peggy, Perhaps they could be cousins or something. When I copied the 1850 c for Tn. back in the early 70.s there were 9 Rufus Smiths there that would fit the age of mine. Guess one of them was yours, I talked to his 2 daughters, by the secone wife and they both said they thought he had a brother named John, but knew very little about their father. They did give me the death date and where he was buried.
