Hi, I have the book whose title is the subject of this post for the next week and will do lookups. Please reply to this post and please limit your request to specific names not a general surname search. Hope this will be helpful? Sharon

I am new to the rootsweb mailing list. I am researching the Hestilow family in Crawford Co, primarily John Hestilow. He lived in Crawford Co 1830 - 1840; his descendants lived there another 10 years, I believe, then moved on to central Texas. As the subject line suggests, the name is spelled many ways. Anyone else researching the Hestilow family? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Can anyone tell me what the Histories in Tombstones" I see referenced here quite often is? Thanks for the help, Jeff Farquhar

Hi, I'm new to the list and I'm looking any information on the following family. Thomas was my grandmothers half brother. What I have, I got from census and letters written to my mother and Grandmother back in the 1920's postmarked Alma Arkansas. Thomas N. McAlister b. ca 1876 Johnson Co,AR d.Mar 3, 1937 Crawford Co AR marr. Grace ? b. ca 1881 Arkansas. children: Paul McAlister b. ca 1907 Crawford Co, AR marr Hazel ? Steele McAlister b. ca 1908 Crawford Co, AR Jewell McAlister b. ca 1910 Crawford Co, AR Lansing McAlister b. ca 1919 Crawford Co, AR. Thomas N and Grace were both schoolteachers and taught school in and around Alma. They also farmed and lived about 6 miles from Alma and lost their home in the tornado of Oct 1st 1927 and had to live in a tent and the well house while rebuilding. I live in Missouri and have been unable to find a copy of the "Histories in Tombstones" cemetery listings. I suspect that it might hold some answers. I would also like to have the marriage record for Grace and Tom and to know her surname. Thanks, Nina Scotti

I was recently back through Crawford county and I went out to the Henson cemetery where my great-great-grandfather Allen Powell is buried. The cemetery has been cleaned up and the underbrush cleared out. They even set the overturned stones upright. The question I have is, who are they? No one I know out there knows who cleaned it up. The cemetery is on the property of the King family, and the only family member I saw there was a teenage boy. I was in a hurry and I wasn't sure he'd know the answer to my question, so I didn't ask. Can anybody tell me who cleaned up the cemetery? Chris

Hi Bert, *When* I get around to it, ;>) I've got mom's (Lorena Moss Lancaster) 'Ancestors of Dyer' books which I've started scanning into my computer. It's a collection of obits from the early 1800's up to about 1976. It's a lot of work, but I'll get it done eventually. I've not yet decided whether I'm going to simply market the books -- one option -- set them up in electronic book format for use on a computer, or just post them on the 'net as freebies for all to use. I believe copies of these two books and of mom's three books on Dyer's history are all in the genealogy room of the Fort Smith library and, no doubt, in the Dora Moss library in Dyer. As you say, now that we have a list to discuss these things, it's a good idea to let everybody know what is available in the way of records. And, for the record, I'm the son of Irl and Lorena (MOSS) LANCASTER, who retired to the old Thomas/Dora Moss homestead in the 70's. The place is still occupied by my sister and brother in law. Through the Moss line, I'm related to quite a few people in Dyer. I'm working a little here and there on compiling and sorting out all of mom's genealogy work on the family; part of it is online at the URL below. trapper ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ John Lancaster, Freelance Business & Technical Writer http://www.ipa.net/~trapper/skeleton.html mailto:[email protected] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Researching Lancaster, Rogers, Moss, Haydon lines. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > > Greetings... > Now that we have a list to discuss these things on, I wanted to pitch > for information that could be submitted to the ARGenWeb archives for Crawford > County, which would make them searchable. Greetings... Now that we have a list to discuss these things on, I wanted to pitch for information that could be submitted to the ARGenWeb archives for Crawford County, which would make them searchable. The kinds of things we're looking for is basically anything that might be of use to another researcher. That includes, but is not limited to, census records, marriage, divorce, death, obits, newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, family/personal bios, whatever. Basically, if has names, dates, and places, we want it... :) Anything y'all could contribute would be greatly appreciated! 11:15 p.m. 7-20-98 To the memembers of this list Crawford Co., Ark: I'm looking for more information on Aaron Price who paid taxes in Crawford Co, in the 1830s. Also there was Simon, Daniel (or David, hard to read records) and John who paid taxes along with Aaron Price. Aaron was later in Perry co. Ark and raised a large family there. We believe he had a first wife whose name is unknown to us. The reason there is a large gap in ages after the first three children, and Jane Waller, my great-grandmother was born abt 1825 in Ky. The oldest child, Elizabeth, listed on the census of 1850 was born about 1832 So it is easy to believe Aaron Price was married before he married Jane Waller. The children were Elizabeth, Melinda, Mabin, and Martha James, my grandfather, Thomas, Sarah and John. There were twins between Mabin and the next child. Frank and Henry. Also there was son George. We do not know what happen to these last three sons mentioned. The other children we know about and some of their descendants. I would appreciate learning any more about Aaron Price born in 1812 in Tn. Lou Price Landry [email protected]
I am looking for information on my grandparents and greatgrandparents. My Greatgrandfather was Albert Dillard Yearton born 1861 (not known where). He married my greatgrandmother, Delilah Jane Moore, born 1854 (not known where), on June 5, 1881 in Crawford County, Arkansas. They owned land in Graphic, Crawford County. They had 2 boys and 3 girls, of which my grandmother, Hannah Myretta Moore, was one. Albert died in 1906 and is buried in Pope Cemetery, Graphic beside Delilah who died in 1922. My grandmother, Hannah, was born in Graphic 10-20-1892. She married Virgil Roland Vaught 9-10-1910. Virgil was born in Alma, Crawford County, Arkansas on 8-16-1888. They had 5 children born in Graphic:Drucie Mae, Bulah Raye, Eulah Faye (twin to Bulah), Routhes Newvinia (unsure of this spelling-I always knew him as Earl), and my father, Selmer Lee (born 8-31-1916). They then moved to Kansas, where Beatrice was born. From there, they moved to Oklahoma where there last two daughters were born. I have found some information on Delilah, but so far have been unable to find anything on Albert Yearton or on Virgil Roland. My dad says he remembers his family saying that Virgil was a twin. His brother was killed while working on the railroad. Was buried somewhere in the area, but when the Arkansas river overflowed, his grave had to be moved somewhere. He also says his brother was named after this uncle (Rothus Neuvinia?). Would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Alice Roberts [email protected]
I requested information from CHEROKEE COUSINS regarding (I thought) Vann CORNELIUS, but instead, I got information on Cornelius VANN. This man (VANN) was from Uniontown, Crawford County, as of January 31, 1907. He was born in 1883. Would anyone be interested in this information? If so, just notify me and we'll see what we can work out. Julia Don FANCHER STONE
