    3. Lavonna, Freedom Cemetery is about 8 miles from Chester, AR and it is a neat place. It is a rough road (gravel) and takes about 15-20 minutes to get there from the town of Chester. I was there 2 years ago. Vontrece in North CA [email protected] wrote: > Subject: > > ARCRAWFO-D Digest Volume 98 : Issue 34 > > Today's Topics: > #1 cemeteries [[email protected]] > #2 Crawford Co. 1. Marriage Look-Ups
    2. Judee Wells
    3. I would like to have some help with two marriage look-ups if anyone has the records and the time. James Reed and Emily. They are in Van Buren, Arkansas in 1870 census with one child born in 1869. Emily (ARK) was 22 and James (TN) was 24. I think they were married somewhere in Crawford county before 1869 when they had their first child. Since Emily was 22 in 1870, they were probably married between sometime in the mid to late 1860's. I wish I could find a marriage record that would give me Emily's last name. It is possible that they were not married in Crawford, but in another county in Arkansas. I have looked for marriage records before and couldn't it. I worry that Emily is a nickname or middle name. I would like to find all of the records for any James Reed married in Crawford (maybe in Arkansas) in the 1860's. Marriage of James Reed and Martha E. (from Il.) James Reed was remarried to Martha E. by the 1880 census -- still living in Van Buren, Crawford county. Martha and James' first child was born in 1877 or 1876 so I assume that they were married between 1871 and 1876. I think they were married in Crawford county. I would greatly appreciate help. Thanks. Judee

    1. Need to hire researcher
    2. Judee Wells
    3. I am at a dead end on a family in Crawford county and need to hire a researcher. I have found the following: 1870 census, Crawford county, Van Buren James Reed (24) -- born Tenn. wife -- Emily (22) -- born Arkansas (later census says Ind. Terr.) Son -- James P. (1) -- born Arkansas 1880 census Crawford county, James Reed (34) new wife Martha son -- James (11) daughter-- Lillian Jane ("Lilly) born 1871. 2 other sons with new wife Martha. Lillian Jane's mother was Emily. Emily then died between 1871 and 1876. I do not have any information about Emily -- other than she was part Cherokee Indian -- probably 1/2. I want to hire a researcher to try and find out information about Emily. Her maiden name -- her parents names (I think they came west on the Trail of Tears) when she died and where she is buried. When and where James and Emily were married? Other related information I know: James P. "Pink" Reed -- Emily and James' son married Matilda in 1890 in Yell County, Arkansas. Children of James and Matilda: Walter Reid 1/1891 born Arkansas, Roy Reid 8/1894 born Arkansas. James and Matilda moved to near Tahlequah, Oklahoma (Lowrey) around 1899 and lived there. Lillian Jane (Lilly) Reed -- my great grandmother-- married Marion Sylvestor York in Russelville (Gala Rock) in 1890. Marion Sylvestor York and his brother owned a cotton gin in Russellville. Lilly and M. S. York moved to Tahlequah around 1899 also and lived there until they died. Please email me if this is a job you would like to undertake. Also please tell me your research rates. Thank you. Judee

    3. Nita: Try NAIL at: http://www.nara.gov/nara/nail.html which is an Info locator for the National Archives. I found some criminal cases at the Ft. Smith Court so maybe it will also have civil cases. I believe this site is adding records all the time. I would think the county historian for Sebastian Co. should have some idea where those original records are kept - or some idea as to where a microfilm copy may be found. You can send a letter to Sebastian County Historian, c/o Local Postmaster, Ft. Smith, AR - (don't know the zip) and see if the historian has any ideas as to where this record may be found.
