    1. McGEE / ADAMS
    2. Joyce Gore Locke
    3. I am searching for descendants of J. B. McGEE and Phebe ADAMS found on the 1880 Crawford County, AR census. Believe that J.B. is James B. McGEE, listed as born ca 1847 TN, father b SC, mother b TN. Wife, Phebe, b ca 1845 AR. Believe she was the daughter of John Quincy ADAMS, b TN, her mother listed as born KY. (nothing else available or proven). Children listed on census: George McGEE b ca 1874 AR Jessee McGEE (son) b ca 1877 AR, later found on the 1910 census for Van Zandt Co, TX with two sons. and Sarah THOMAS, stepdaughter, age 16, b AR. My grandfather, James Isaac McGEE, was born 7 Jul 1880 Crawford Co, AR and just missed the census. His death certificate lists parents as James and Phebe (Adams) McGee and place of birth as Crawford Co, AR. This is one of my largest brick walls, and would love to find McGee cousins out there to work with. Thanks! Joyce Locke The Gore Family Connection http://www.yucca.net/jglocke/

    3. HI: I spotted this on another list and thought it might help the Crawford County researchers in looking for ancestors pre-Arkansas days. Also remember that KY was VA before the Rev. War so Rev. War pensions for those in the early KY territory will be at the VA archives. And, many of our Arkansas people arrived from KY. 1. Records before 1870
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. Hi: I just watched a TV show about the history of a San Francisco house. Because of the records that burned in the 1906 earthquake - it was suggested that the new owner contact the water dept. whose records did not burn. He found out the name of the contractor, the date the house was built, and the number of faucets to be put in the house. This made me wonder what records might still be available concerning Crawford Co. even though the courthouse burned in 1870. Were some records saved? Did land owners take their deeds back and re-record them? Just what records are available at Crawford Co. before 1870? My ancestors were there by 1833 and were still there for the 1850 census. I'd love to find out more about them during these years. I found the obituary for one in the AR Gazette in 1838 but only because he was a well-known figure. Obits were not usually published in the Gazette at that time. Regards, Nan Wolf

    1. Where are newspapers archived?
    2. Nan & George Wolf
    3. I'm looking for a marriage of Jonathan EPPLER and Esther _____ HINDS, widow that took place in Van Buren probably around 1842. That is when her son, David Hinds, had her name removed as co-administrator of her deceased husband's estate - because of her remarriage. The courthouse burned in 1870 so I am hoping to find the marriage notice in a local paper. Are there Van Buren or Ft. Smith newspapers from 1842 in any archive in Arkansas? I need Esther's maiden name. I would like to correspond with anyone who has a HINDS ancestor in Crawford or nearby counties. Does the Arkansas Historical Commission have an index online of what they have in their archives? Regards, Nan Wolf

Mildred's sister Maude Irene Rogers married Dick's brother Fred Whitlock. They lived in the Mulberry ('Georgia Ridge') area. Whitlocks came on the James Rogers caravan (wagon train) that left Walker (Catoosa ) Co., GA area in late 1843. They stayed about a year in Washington Co, AR before finally settling on the ridge (Georgia Ridge) north of Mulberry. Subject: Re: County Cemetery Index Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit In reference to cemeteries in Crawford County, Arkansas.....there is (as most of you already know) a book "History in Headstones: Crawford County, Ark" that was done in 1970. It has some errors in it, but is a fairly good book for reference useage. It is not indexed but is done by cemetery listings which, unfortunately, are not in alpha order. There are some indexes floating around. I have access to one of those if anyone wants a quick look up. I have been visiting in Crawford County and have done a listing of the Dean Cemetery in the Dean Springs area, and have just about completed the Alma City Cemetery. Let me know if you need any lookups on either of these. Tricia Angel Tricia, Please look for Thomas N. McAlister b. 1876 d. Mar 3, 1937 and his wife Grace (?) Then I'll get to the indices for Vol. II. These lists will not be complete by any means, but do cover a lot of people buried between 1839 - 1989.
