    1. [ARCONWAY-L] GRANT surname
    2. yvonne henson
    3. Hello list members -- I want to first apologize for the length of this request. I am providing ALL the information that I have. If anyone has any suggestions or recognizes any of the names I would deeply appreciate any/all help in solving this puzzle. I am researching my husbands side of the family. His g-grandmother was suppose to be a Cherokee Indian. I have no proof of this or any evidence to suggest that this is true, only family stories. I do not know where she was born or who her parents were. The only evidence I have of her life is two marriage licenses one for 1890(Jackson County) and one for 1897(Conway County) and the 1900(Conway County), 1910(Yell County), 1920(Lonoke County) census records. She was born 1870 - 1873, maybe as late as 1875 died 1942. (I have been unable to locate a death certificate on her only an obituary no social security either.) She was married 3 times and had children by all three husbands. All her children are deceased. She lived all her life in AR as far as I can tell (according to the census records). She may have been born in OK, but it would have been before OK became a state. The names I have are as follows: Dora Adeline GRANT (1st marriage), M MALONE, (children) Pearl married a HAIL/HALE, Myrtle b ~1892 married W F PAINE/PAYNE (2nd marriage), Noah Strong EDMON(D)SON, (children) Houston Grantson married Mabel MCARTHUR, Charlie married Rose SENBILL (3rd marriage), Joseph Wesley CARLOCK, (children) Ruby several marriages, Hurbert married a FRY She had two brothers, JAMES and WAIN GRANT. I just found them listed in 1900 soundex for Welborn township, Conway county! As being enumerated with POLLY SITTERLEY, listed as mother and head of house. (NOTE: I found in vol5 of Cherokee by blood an application about the Sitterley name. The person is admitted and stated that the grandfather was born in North Carolina.) I have a marriage license for Jim (Jas) GRANT to MRS. ALLIE WINTON August 7, 1903, Conway County. He is listed as 21 years of Cardon Bottom in Yell county. She is listed as 25 same place. Another piece of information on James GRANT. A marriage to Josephine Vaughn Verden in Pope/Yell County. James died in 1926 and is buried in Brearly cemetery in Yell county. His death certificate lists his name as James H GRANT, born in Searcy County. Father's name is Andrew and mother's is Barbara unknown. I also have one for Wain (Wayne) GRANT to MATTIE GRAMBLE February 14, 1903, Conway County. He is listed as 23 years of Atkins in Pope county. She is listed as 29 same place. James GRANT listed as head of household in the 1910 census for Wilson Township, Yell county. He is listed as 25 years old, divorced and married for 6 years. (The years were crossed out.) Also listed in this house is a Polly SITTERLEY. She was listed as his mother, 50 years old, widowed, mother of 6 children with 3 living. Also in the household is a Myrtle MALONE, niece, 18 years of age and single. In the margin of the census form was a notation Negro Ridge Pond. On the same census 9 visits above is Dora Adeline GRANT, married to Joseph Wesley CARLOCK. However I do not believe Polly is Dora's mother IF the ages listed are even close! But there is also a notation on the margin of her census record, Lower Petit Jean River Road. Are any of these people familiar to anyone? Does anyone recognize the SITTERLEY name? How about a cemetery somewhere with this name in it? ANY suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you to every one in advance for any help that I receive. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. yvonne ____________________________ reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

"] -- YOU KNOW YOU'RE TAKING GENEALOGY TOO SERIOUSLY IF... You are the only person to show up at the cemetery research party with a shovel. To put the "final touches" on your genealogical research, you've asked all of your closest relatives to provide DNA samples. You were instrumental in having "non-genealogical use of the genealogy room copy machine" classified as a federal hate crime. Your house leans slightly toward the side where your genealogical records are stored. You decided to take a two-week break from genealogy, and the US Postal Office immediately laid off 1,500 employees. Out of respect for your best friend's unquestioned reputation for honesty and integrity, you are willing to turn off that noisy surveillance camera while she reviews your 57 genealogical research notebooks in your home. The armed security guard, however, will remain. You plod merrily along "refining" your recently published family history, blissfully unaware that the number of errata pages now far exceeds the number of pages in your original publication. During an ice storm and power outage, you ignore the pleas of your shivering spouse and place your last quilt around that 1886 photograph of dear Uncle George. The most recent document in your "Missing Ancestors" file is a 36-page contract between you and Johnson Billboard Advertising Company. Ed McMahon, several t.v. cameras and an envelope from Publishers Clearing House arrive at your front door on Super Bowl Sunday, and the first thing you say is, "Are you related to the McMahons of Ohio?" "A Loving Family" and "Financial Security" have moved up to second and third, respectively, on your list of life's goals, but still lag far behind "Owning My Own Microfilm Reader." A magical genie appears and agrees to grant your any one wish, and you ask that the 1890 census be restored. ==== CUMBERLAND Mailing List ==== A question about the Cumbria Record Offices? Specifically what happened to Robert and Nancy after 1910? The Conway Co. 1910 Census is the last I have record of them. The children moved to OK as adults, but cannot find what happened to Nancy and Robert. If they are buried in Conway County somewhere, nobody knows about it. They would have only been 31 & 37 in 1910, if they died before 1920, that would be awfully young. -- Lisa C.
