    1. Re: [ARCONWAY-L] BURKS & RICHARDSON
    2. Peg Gordon
    3. Bob I am not in your line, but have a suggestion. If you haven't done this, look at all GIVEN NAMES in the census records to see if you can find your people listed with another family and the census taker used the same surname for yours. In the 1870 Conway Co, AR Census, I could not find four of our GORDON young men after their father had died & their step mother had remarried. I finally started looking for their given names and found them listed as RAGSDALES. I later found proof that RAGSDALE was their guardian and grandfather. Also, have you checked the two books of abstracts of Conway Co, AR Marriages? I don't have them, but surely someone could do a look-up for you. Don't be too sure you KNOW where your ancestors were at a given time - they had ways of moving for short periods and getting "lost" from us. Our GORDON family was in every census, but for several years - between census - they lived in Indian Territory. We would not have known this if a relative who lived there as a child had not told us. Yours could have been elsewhere during the census and moved back. Good luck in your research. 1. [ARCONWAY-L] Re: Marriages and Deaths
    2. Helloo Again! Thanks to everyone who replied to my question on the whereabouts of Gregory Township! I am just getting started in Arkansas. Here's another question for you, How far back do marriage records go? I need records of marriages that took place in Conway County between 1874-1878. Are those available? Also, if I order marriage records but cannot narrow down the date it took place, will I be able to find them? My next question is are there any books in print listing cemetaries and the names of people buried there? Most of my people were only there between 1874-1882 before moving on to Texas. Several family members died while living in Conway County however and at least two spouses remarried. Thanks Again! Pam

    3. I have a copy of a township book & there's 2 maps of every township in each county, one map for 1921 and another map for 1990, plus it tells how the township lines changed in each county every 10 years, from 1820 (or from when it was formed if after 1820) up to 1990. The book is called Arkansas Township Digest: Minor Civil Divisions, 1820-1990 You can get it from the URL below. http://biz.ipa.net/arkresearch/desother.html#twp Cathy ==== Lisa Shearin wrote: > I would also like to know of a source for the old townships in Conway > County (all over the state, actually). 1. [ARCONWAY-L] Re: ARCONWAY-D Digest V99 #54
    2. Lisa, I am researching the surnames of Cobb and Wild. The Cobbs were from Giles Co. Tennessee and moved to westward to Arkansas and settled in Arkansas. Richard Lafayette Cobb was born in Giles Co. Tennessee in September of 1833. He fought for the Condfederacy in the Third Arkansas Regiment(Cavalry). He is buried in Morrilton. His headstone is a confederate monument. R.L. Cobb was the son of Robert and Ann Cobb(who were cousins), they emigrated to Tennessee from Virginia. R.L. Cobb married Mary Ann Elizabeth Warren, who was his first cousin(her Mother was a Cobb). She was born in Giles Co. Tennessee in 1829. They were the parents of several children, many of whom died in infancy. There was an Isabelle, and Josephine Abigail Cobb. Josephine Abigail was my Great-grandmother. She was born in Giles Co. Tennessee on September 29, 1856. Josephine Abigail Cobb married William Harvey Wild on June 3, 1875, in Conway Co. Arkansas. They had several children: Edward, Jennie, Mary, Ben, Wilma, Laura, and Charles. Jennie was my Grandmother. I know quite about the Cobbs, but nothing, or almost nothing about the Wilds, and would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give me. I know that Will Wild worked for Drury Warren, who was the brother of Mary Ann Elizabeth Warren Cobb. On the 1870 census he is listed as a domestic servant. I know that much and his date and place of birth(even that is not clear). I would like to know who his parents were and where they came from. I am hoping that you will add these names to your Conway Co. Surname list, they all lived there. Sincerely, Stephanie Shurley Kengirl57@aol.com
