Thanks, Michelle. For anyone else who is interested, I just called, and they don't sell copies of the photos. Copies can be made on the copy machine in the library, though, according to the young woman who answered the phone. Does someone on this list know if the Columbia Lafayette Ouachita Calhoun Regional Library at Magnolia that has the Walz photos will sell copies of those? I noticed that SARA will sell copies of their photos, but nothing is said about those that are in the Magnolia library. Thanks for any information. Barbara Ray

Joyce personally I don't have anything on this family. However if you will go to the webpage at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ariana/ and go to the genealogy links page there are lots of research sites where you can look up that information. My favorite is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints although you must remember that that information is submitted by humans and the data is not 100% accurate. I honestly don't know how much of the book is newer photos, however the copy that I saw had many old photos, some I believe from the Walz collection (and there are about 200+ in that collection). They haven't published the book yet and are just trying to see if they can get enough orders to have the book published. I think they require 200 orders before they publish the book. I know the last time the book was published it sold out really quick and now it is very hard to find a copy. Ina, I don't know Beach Creek, but my gg grandfather, Andrew CADDELL had two sawmills in Columbia County during the 1850s-1860s. They lived in the Waldo community. He died in 1862 in the Civil War fighting for the Confederacy. After his death, his estate was sold and my gg grandmother left with her minor children and settled in Hopkins County in East Texas. Hi Michelle, I have thought about this all afternoon. I do not intend to hurt anyone. Monroe Patrick Parker is my first cousin. He and his family joined the morman church and had to do a family tree. He just took family say so without documentation and gave to the Morman Church. This the reason we can not take LDS as fact. It can be used for research but please do your own documentation. I will see Patrick at the Parker family reunion the first weekend in Aug., 2000. I will try to get him to get this straight, if he can. I understand that one can not go back and take out mistakes. If I am wrong please correct me. Thanks for your help. It looks like this list is finally going to come to life. I am forever grateful. I was told by Mayor Lane Jean last October that his gggrandfather, Bartlett Barker Jean, and his family were in a wagon train that left Georgia in 1865 settling in Columbia County, AR, naming the community Atlanta in reference to Atlanta, GA. I am interested in the other surnames (families) that travelled in that same wagon train to Atlanta, AR. I believe Bartlett's sister, Sarah A. (Jean) Kight, and her family were amongst the folks in that wagon train. Does anyone out there know about this? Thanks, Diane

Michelle Rasberry Administrator ARCOLUMB Mailing List -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Burns family Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2000 10:09:39 -0500 From: "Roger L. Robison" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Dear Michelle, I was wondering if you have any information about this family or can point me toward a helpful resource. James Monroe Burns married Ann Susan Burley in 1859 and had three children: Byron Lucius, Genio, and Frances Cornelia (my great-grandmother). He was murdered in1870, and Ann Susan next married Alvin Daugherty with whom she had two more children: William and Cornelia (Nell). Although Frances was born in Shongaloo, LA, I suspect that the family may have lived in Columbia Co, AR for a while. I have found a James M. Burns in the federal land records of 1860. Do any of these names appear in your research? I know nothing about my great-grandmother's siblings from either of her mother's marriages. Any help that you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Hi Michelle, I feel that John M. and Payton Letcher are brothers, but have not made the connection. I am workings with Mike who is a greatgrandson of John M. Parker. I have a bill of sale for land in Hot Springs Co. from Payton Letcher to John M. On the land records in Columbia Co they are on land that is close to each other. Both Payton and John M. Had sons named John C. born in Hot Springs Co. only 2 years apart. On the Columbia Co. web page it states that Parkers were early settlers in Columbia Co. I was wondering if they are our Parkers. I live only 4 or 5 hours from Columbia Co. I need to come and see what I can find, but finding time is a problem. Thanks Ellen Parker
I found some information on a John M. Parker in Columbia County in Goodspeeds. It reads as follows: John M. Parker is a son of William B. Parker, and like his father was born in Georgia, but at the age of twenty-one he started out for himself and moved to Arkansas at the age of twenty-two. Prior to this he had married Miss Clara Barton, a daughter of Larkin Barton, a blacksmith and farmer of Meriwether County, Ga., who died when Mrs. Parker was fourteen years of age. To her union with Mr. Parker the following family of children have been born: Maryander (wife of Jackson De Vaughn), Josephine (wife of Robert Stuart), John C. Larkin, James R. Jeff, Guss, Judson (wife of John Robertson), and Janie (who died at nineteen). All but the last named are living at this date. On first coming to this State Mr. Parker settled in Hot Spring County, where he remained ten years, then removed to Columbia County, and after a residence of twenty-six years here he came to Hempstead County. In 1863 he enlisted in Crawford's regiment, Fagan's brigade, and the most of his service was in Arkansas. He was captured at Long View in 1865, and remained in prison at Little Rock, Ark., and Rock Island, Ill., until about one month before the final surrender. His regiment was discharged at Marshall, Tex., and he returned to his home in Columbia County, Ark., and resumed farming, remaining here during the reconstruction period. He has resided on the farm on which he is now living since 1881, his estate consisting of eighty acres, and as the land is fertile it produces abundant crops of cotton, corn, small grain and fruits. He and his wife are members of the Missionary Baptist Church. He is a Democrat, politically, and has filled a number of honorable callings in life. His parents were of English descent, and Baptist people; his mother died in 1848 in Dallas County, Ark., and his father in 1865 in Jasper County, Tex. Some relation maybe? This is the only Parker I have found in Columbia County as of yet. I will keep looking and see what I find. I have a photograph of my grandmother Autna DENNIS WALKER, made with her "best friend," Kate ANDERSON, on July 15, 1910, in Columbia County (not sure of exact location--my aunt recently sent me the photograph). I would be happy to send a copy of this photograph to any descendants of Kate Anderson who might be on this list--would also be interested in learning more about her family. Barbara Ray
