Hi! My ggrandma was born in Bossier parish in 1890, Mary Annie Parmer. I am told from family in Columbia County that one of my relations, Nellie Parmer married a Johnny Johnson or "Wheat" as he was known. She died a few years ago and I am trying to find whatever I can on this family. Where all have you Johnson's been in the 1800's and 1900's. Does Johnny ring a bell with you? Thanks for any help, Cassie [email protected] wrote: > The following ancestors lived in Macedonia - Harmony comunities of Columbia > County in the late 1800's. I put the wrong page number in my lookup request. The page should be #447. Sorry for the inconvenience. Gwen Goff Hobbs

Hi! I was looking for my parmer, vanpelt and robinson families in some cemetary records and wills and probate in AR yesterday and came across a couple of your Vanwinkles or likely ones. There is a Vanwinkle couple in the Stewart-Walkerville Cemetary, Row 14-- Jane Gooden b. 1845 d. 29 Apr 1881-wife of John Winkle (tried to copy this exactly as written but don't know why I didn't have a Van there now, sorry-maybe I can recheck it again another day- It is Vanwinkle though just before the detail on the inscriptions. John is with her it indicates. His stone reads, John Co.E. 1 Ark CAV.CSA with no date. Also, I found John Vanwinkle in Benton County Probate record Index. Probate information on John Vanwinkle is in Probate Book C 1882 page 615. Found a Peter Vanwinkle (Heir) in Washington County in 1884 Probate Book G pg 524 Best wishes, Cassie Michael Van Winkle wrote: > Should you run across any information on Jesse and Catherine or John Richard > VanWinkle of Columbia or Lafayette Co, I would appreciate knowing about it. > I am trying to varify their date of death and place of burial.\ > Michael R. Dear Karen, My Margret Ann VanPelt married Fredrick Maness or Fedrick Meaness, as it is in my old paperwork. Wondering if this is a sibling to Lilac? Care to exchange ideas? Also came across one or two people searching same surname in AR. Cassie Karen Moss wrote: > James, > > I have a Coleman Reeves, b. 1911, that married Lilac Maness, b. 1917. Hi! I am searching for descendants of Fedrick Meaness/Maness, who married my ancestor Elizar Jane's sister, Margret Ann Vanpelt on Aug 16, 1865. I believe Margret was born in Magnolia, Columbia County, AR. This is the only information I have on these people. Please help, I'd love to know more about these cousins. Thanks! Thanks for all the responses to my Wiley Jones query. However my Wiley Jones is not the one with the Ala. connections. My Wiley J Jones was from SC. Not sure of birth place could be SC or Va. He married Laura Bailey . They moved to Miss. then on to Ar. before 1860. He and Laura had 3 children. Coleman, Pinkney, and William. Pinkney married Sarah Umanzo Gulley. They had 12 children My Grandmother Emma Frances Jones was their only daughter. She married James Robert Boyce. His father was John L Boyce, mother Amanda Reese Boyce. Still looking for my Wiley J Jones parents. Betty Doherty
I was trying to find out exactly when he moved to Columbia County. I know he taught school there because my grandmother, Pinkie Eugenia Dismukes Parham, was one of his students. He also farmed. There is a plaque in the National Park in Vicksburg with his name on it--having lead forces from Tennessee in that battle. His brother, William, was also in that battle. Hi all, I am researching the following families in Columbia and Union County: COWSER, BARNETT, HICKS, CORNISH, MORGAN, LAGRONE and WATSON I would like to exchange information with anyone researching these families. Thanks, Linda
Earlene, yes Limestone was/is in the Norther portion of AL. Wiley J. Jones Sr. married Caleb Bethel Powell's sister.
I just wrote a note in response to one from Betty Doherty about Wiley Jones. Now I have a question for Dan. I have Pinckney Burr Jones who married Sarah "Sally" Gulley in Ouachita Co, AR. They lived and died in Nevada Co, AR and were buried in the White Church Cemetery there. I had just asked Betty if she knew of a Brilliant Powell Jones since he is also buried there, but I have not connected him to Pinckney Burr Jones' family. After reading the name "Letha Jane Bryant Powell", I am wondering if this Brilliant Powell's name is a variation. Earlene Mendenhall Lyle
>Wiley married >my Triple Great Grandfather's, Caleb Bethel Powell's daughter. She was >Tabitha Elizabeth and they lived with Caleb and Letha Jane Bryant Powell >during the Civil War. If anyone who is searching this line should find any information regarding the Letha/Latha Jane BRYANT that married Caleb POWELL, I would really appreciate hearing from you. Regards, Ina
Betty: This is exactly my Jones line, though I have not tried to track it any further back than Pinckney Burr Jones. My line actually runs through his wife, Sarah U. "Sally" Gulley. Would you happen to know what the "U" stands for? I also have Pinckney born in South Carolina, so when did the family move to MS and on to AR? My main line is Mendenhall, Sally's grandparents. They were from NC; when they moved from there, they settled in Conecuh Co, AL for a good while. In fact, all of Thomas Mendenhall's children were buried there. Conecuh is more in the middle of the state. Someone mentioned Limestone County for Wiley J Jones. I could get a map, but was wondering if that county was more northerly. Families tended to travel together, and I know Thomas' last child was born in AL in 1844. They were in AR by the 1850 census. Do you know anything of the Brilliant Powell Jones buried in White Church? I haven't found him as part of Sally's family. Also, very few of Sally's children lived to middle-age. Any ideas there? I see that Pinckney named one of his sons Wiley, also. Was he also Wiley J? You can see I have more questions than answers, but I live in AL where there is relatively NOTHING for research material in AR. I only found this much out during periodic brief one-day trips to AR when I visited my parents in north LA years ago. Earlene Mendenhall Lyle
