Hi James Peterson! Thank you for volunteering your time to share! I am looking for Sam or Samuel Ferguson in Magnolia/Waldo areas of Columbia County in your 1880 census. Thank you in advance for your time! Stephanie
And a good afternoon back to you James! I picked up on your posting on Columbia County in 1880. I have a grandfather, James P. Atkinson b. Macedonia (?) 1886 and his wife Catherine E Stricklen (?) whom I know very little about. I assume hear family lived in the same area. James P's parents lived in the Macedonia/Philadlphia, Col. County area for some time. I would appreciate any info.you might have in the 1880 census concerning any or all of the above family. Appreciatively, Jim. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2002 12:57 AM Subject: Columbia County 1880 > Top of the morning to all of you: > I have the 1880 census for the whole United States and it has helped me a > lot. Hello to the list I would appreciate a response from someone who knows the exact name for those long handled sticks that have some type of clamp on the end that are used to remove and replace those metal filing drawers that are found in county clerk's offices. The metal boxes/drawers I am speaking of usually contain things like probate files that are tied up in bundles, or sometimes have envelopes standing on end. Note, please I need the name of the tool to remove them. Alice in Fluvanna

I was able to locate two ancestors in the index and then ordered their death certificates. AR Death Certificates show the parents and where they were born (I think), the occupation and how long in it and how long retired, etc. They are a very valuable source. Linda Johnson Texas City, TX

Arkansas, didn't issue birth certificates until 1914, your best bet will be to find a death certificate. There is an Ark death index, available at some Ark. libraries & at the Ark History Comm. Then when you get the date of death & place you can find funeral records and possibly an obituary in the local paper... Othilla in Pope Co.
