Well, then, we might be distant - VERY distant - cousins :) My direct line came to Texas from Breckinridge County, KY (where they migrated in the very early 1800s). Before that, they were in the area of Granville and Person counties, NC, and Halifax Co., VA. I can trace them back to original immigrant who arrived in VA as an indentured servant ca. 1658. But I know that other branches of the same family migrated from the Southside VA area down to GA and then across to MS and LA. Your Amite Co., MS Poole family may be from that bunch. My family started out as Pettypool, then about the time of the Revolution abbreviated the name to P'Pool, P.Pool, etc., and finally, about the time of the Civil War abbreviated the name further to just plain ole Poole and Pool. People with all those name variations can still be found in all parts of the US, all descended from the same immigrant ancestor. But there were also "legitimate" Pools and Pooles - unrelated - who were in the Colonies at the same time. Feel free to write to me directly at txgeezer@sbcglobal.net if you want to explore this further - though I admit that I know little about the lines that went south (vs. west) from Southside VA.
