I'm helping an elderly friend w/his family history and he's a Butler descendant, specifically of Isaac Newton Butler, son of William H. Butler. William was living w/wife Martha (Barker, daughter of Eldridge) and baby son Richmond in Lafayette co, Miss as of the 1850 census; they were in Columbia co, Arkansas as of the 1860 census, remained there. Martha apparently died & Wm remarried Manerva (Jones per previous marriage, along w/previous kids Virgil, John and a 3rd I can't remember). William's children include Richmond, Isaac Newton, Martha, William Jr., Matilda. I know about Isaac & Richmond's lives away from home but nothing about the other kids. I have copies of the Columbia co, Ark marriage records so have possible marriages for the kids but some of those possibles are under nicknames like Molly, Milly, Polly, Matty, etc. Richmond apparently had some kind of emotional issues, was at the asylum in Little Rock -- so was William in later life. Unfortunate! ly most of the asylum records are destroyed and only 1 of them is listed as having been buried there. ?? I have seen information listed that William H. is the brother of Joel Butler, also living in Lafayette co, in 1850, also in 1840. Both are said to be the sons of Haley Butler of Elbert co, Georgia and wife Nancy Ward, Haley son of Joel Butler and Leticia/Letty. I have information re William H and family but would really like to know more about Haley, Joel, all other relatives. I'd love copies of any information, including births, marriages, deaths, cemetery, photos, wills, etc, etc. I'd also like to hear from any and all descendants to exchange information and say hello. I very much hope to hear back from you!! Pavla Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am the gr granddaughter of Wm Samuel Puckett who moved to Columbia Co. AR in 1888, along with wife, Malinda Lucy (Barber) & their family of 8 children. Wm's brother, Joseph Richard Puckett & his family made the move with them, from Coweta Co. GA. They were the sons of Andrew Jackson Puckett & Francis E. (Roberts) Puckett who married in Coweta Co. in 1837. Obviously, they are related in some way to the other Puckett/Roberts families in the area. The earliest I can find is James L. Puckett & w/Martha Ann (Casey) Puckett of Miller Co. According to other sites, James was the son of John A. Puckett & Caroline (May) Puckett of Forsyth Co. GA. I believe that John A. Puckett was my Andrew's brother since Andrew's first son was also named John A. Puckett. Andrew (b 1806, SC) isn't listed with other children of John A's parents James M. & Elizabeth (LeGrand) Puckett of VA. Several of Andrew & Francis' children also lived in Forsyth Co. Can anyone on the list tell me the origin or the earliest ancestor in GA and/or SC of the Roberts (surname) in the area? Also, any further info on these Pucketts will be most appreciated as well. An old family "story" is that these Pucketts were disowned or written out of the family history, apparently over a disagreement regarding the marriage of Andrew & Francis. If that is the case, they certainly did a good job of it. Thank you for any help, Diane P.
