    3. Ark. Gazette Jan. 8, 1889, Warren - A Mr. Lane of Cleveland County, who had his leg broken one day last week on a raft on the Saline River, was yesterday compelled to have it amputated. The operation was performed by Dr. Gannaway. The patient is doing well as could be expected under the circumstances. Mr. Lane must certainly be a man of nerve and coolness. When the accident occurred he was caught in the coil of the check-line and instantly dragged under the water. While under the surface and the rope crushing the bones of his leg, he had the presence of mind to take his knife from his pocket and cut the rope and free himself from its coils. Ark. Gazette, Jan. 17, 1889, Warren - Mr. Lane, the amputation of whose limb was reported last week, died last night. At the time his limb was broken he received severe injuries internally from which he suffered greatly. His remains were taken to Toledo for interment. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Messenger. http://im.yahoo.com
