How are ya'll doing?? I've been on vacation!! But did manage to get a little research squeezed in!! I found several things in the Bradley County courthouse that pertain to what is now Cleveland. Thought I would post some of them. Question--where was Chowning's Ferry located?? And does anyone know where Vint's Bluff is located, and if there was ever a ferry there?? Ferry Bond Know all men by these presents that I, J.B. W. Chowning as principal and J.B. Chowning,Jr. as his security are held and firmly bound to the State of Arkansas, County of Bradley in the full sum of five hundred dollars the payment of which will and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs, executors and administrators firmly by these present. Signed and sealed this July 12th, 1862. Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas that T. Chowning has taken out of the County Court a license to keep a ferry across the Saline river at the ferry known as the Grizzards ferry for the year of 1862. Now if the above bound T. Chowning shall perform or cause to be performed the duties as public ferryman then this bond to be void otherwise remain in full force and virtue. Signed S. Chowning J.B.
