Arkansas Gazette July 12, 1894, Rison - Circuit Court has been in session nearly two weeks, with Judge M. L. Hawkins and Prosecuting Attorney H. W. Wells at their respective posts of duty, both gentlemen giving universal satisfaction. Besides the local bar, Cols. Met L. Jones, W. P. Grace, J. G. Taylor, D. H. Rousseau, of Pine Bluff; A. C. Jones, Warren; Zack Woods, Monticello; and R. C. Fuller, Fordyce, were in attendance some time during the past two weeks. There was very little criminal matter before this term of court and nearly all the civil matter appertained to matter that has been pending in court for several years. News reached here yesterday that Marion Hudson, who lives ten miles northwest of here in Jefferson County, lost his barn and contents Sunday night by fire, supposed to be incendiary, though Mr. Hudson could not conceive an enemy in the world who would do him harm. The amount of loss was not learned but a good barn well filled with corn, fodder, oats, hay, plows, harness, etc., were all a total loss. The recent rains has made the hearts of our people beat glad and rejoice. Farmers say that corn is very fine and cotton doing as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Senator W. S. Amis has been at the bedside of his father at Fordyce for several days. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Thousands of Stores. Millions of Products. I search for a "Mrs. Johnny Holderfield" who was once a Johnson and came from near Hermatige, Bradley County. Her real name is not Johnny, but that was how she was known aroung Hermitage. Holderfield is her second marriage, I believe. She may have a broken arm (doesn't respond to mail). She was a very attractive lady when I last saw her (several years ago). Plz adv if you know of the whereabouts of this lady. I wish to contact her. Wilkie Wilkinson, Houston, TX

I salute you. I believe that your g.g.g-f was likely "Judge Robert Dedman", one of the most respected men of his day. Does this mean that you are related to Wanda Williams Colvin, widow of John Charles Calvin, only child of Old Sam Colvin down in the woods near Eagle Lake (where my cousin had his whiskey still.)? Are you related to the Dedmans who had the store at Ramsey, Dallas County, back in the 1930s? During WW-ll, I was sent to Rome for Rest & Rehabilitation in early 1945. When I stepped up to register at the Army operated hotel, there was a Dedman boy from Ramsey behind the desk. We had a short talk and I got on with my R & R and did not see him again. Bruce Ivey Dedman, Jr., "Winks" to family and friends, was born about 1923. He lived on 'Mill Street' and his dad filed saws. I lived about a block toward town and we played together almost every day of our lives. May I send to you a photo of Winks and his dog with me and my dog? Wilkie Wilkinson

They both passed on in 1981 and 1982, and are missed greatly. After my grandfather passed away we could not locate any of the old family photo's. I do have a few old picture's of the Holderfield's, and I think that some are of my grandmother(Jeffie's) father. Thank you Renita

Posted on: Cleveland Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Cleveland/66 Surname: WARDLAW ------------------------- The two I mentioned, Eady Jane, and Martha Wardlaw were the children of Robert Hilliard J. Wardlaw and Artmesia Cauley Wardlaw according to the 1850 and 1860 Bradley County Cemsus. Robert H. J. and Artemesia are buried in the Old McGehee/Cherry Cemetery south of Rison Ar., which was then in Bradley County. Your Jane and Martha could be cousins. I don't have any additional information on this Eady Jane or Martha except that it appears that they were born in Chambers County, Alabama according to these census' and came to Bradley County, Arkansas with the family just prior to 1850 probably by way of Mississippi. It appears that there were several related Wardlaw families that came to Bradley Co., at about that time or shortly afterwards.
Arkansas Gazette December 2, 1894, Rison Dec. 1 - Mr. Jefferson Vickers, an old and esteemed citizen died and was buried Sunday by the Masons of this place. Judge M. L. Hawkins is in the city preparatory to opening court Monday. Forest fires have been doing considerable damage around here this week, considerable fence having been destroyed. For several nights the smoke was so dense as to make life miserable. Court will meet Monday, but as there is but little business court will last but a short time. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Messenger - Talk while you surf! Arkansas Gazette June 5, 1891, Rison, June 4 - John Tanner, one of the parties for whom 'Squire T. W. Gray issued a warrant of arrest Monday, was captured the following day by Marshal Rodgers, of Brinkley. The Constable then was notified of the arrest, and left on the 12:40 train, Tuesday, for that point, but before reaching there Tanner made his escape and is still at large. Mr. J. T. Renfrow has been appointed receiver to take charge of the saw mill and planing plant in the case of Emerson & Sadler against A. J. Miller and others. Brown, Doughaday & Co., of St. Louis, have commenced attachment proceedings against the H.C. Miller Lumber Company for about $12,000. Other creditors have filed similar suits amounting to about $4,000. There are many complications involved in these suits, which will raise some very nice law points. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
