Hi Jayne-- I refer you to the history of Dorsey County, by Goodspeed of 1890. This can be found on the Cleveland County Page. It appears that when the county was formed, it consisted of 8 townships of which Smith was one. The township lines start at the mouth of Big Creek, north to just north of what is today Hwy 114, westerly to Derriseaux Creek, then southerly to the Saline River, and down the river to point of beginning. This is the area including Toledo, Mt. Elba Road to river and Hwy 35 south to Big Creek. Hope this helps. I only have one of their children, Gladys Dean Word, born 1907 who was married to Walter Martin Sims, son of James Alexander Sims, who was a brother to my Grandmother, Lillian Emily Sims Norman.
