Another old community in eastern Cleveland County was known as St. John's...there was once a post office there. I have an approximate location. Does anyone know its exact geographical location? Annette Rawls

Rose Hill is located on Hwy 114 from about the Rose Hill Deer Camp past the turnoff that would take you to the old Rose Ranch. This "turnoff" to the right (if you're traveling east) is a gravel road (which is now gated). Rose Hill School was directly across Hwy 114 from the turnoff. New Hope Baptist Church is located in the Rose Hill Community. Diane and Russell White also live in this area. Centreville is/was located about a mile west of the present Rowell Community on Hwy 63/15. If one knows where the old Rowell Store (once owned by Clyde and Reason Boyd and recently torn down) was located, turn west on the county road (across the highway from the old store) and follow the road (mostly gravel) until Corral(?) Road, turn left on Corral Road and follow it to the fork (clearing). This clearing is approximately the site of Centreville. There was once a school, hotel, store, and a Civil War "hospital" (Mulberry Creek Hospital) located on/near the site. Centreville was located on the old road, now impassable, which ran from Pine Bluff to the Mt. Elba Crossing on the Saline River (roughly north and south). If one could continue west at the fork, this would lead you back to the Rose Hill Community on Hwy 114. Going back across Hwy 63/15 the road also ran beside the old Rowell (Boyd) Store to Cornersville in Lincoln County. Need help guys.... I'm trying to create a map with all the old communities listed. Does anyone know where "Sunny Hill" was? And exactly where in the highway 114 area was "Rose Hill"? I think Dr. Rawls will know this one. :) Does anyone know anything about "Centerville"? If you know of any villages or communities that weren't common knowledge, please let me know and give me a location. As soon as I get the map finished, I'll post it to the website. And a reminder.... I still need some family website url's for the site. I only have the Ward family, the Cox/Bowlin family and one for the Marks family. Who else out there has a family website that has genealogy information? If it's not your personal site, but has a Cleveland County family connection, it will be a good one to use. Thanks for your help. I can remember that my dad was really frightened and he got his family away from there fast. I can remember later someone telling of a path cut thru the forest near where we were swimming. Thanks for your help. Wilkie

Ok everyone, need input..... I have the Tornado article posted on the website. Would you like me to also post it here? Belinda ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Yes, Belinda, it would be a great addition to the site.
Ok Troups, I found it. May 9, 1927. The May 12 issue of the Cleveland County Herald has most of the front page devoted to it. I will post it asap. It would make a really great addition to the website. I would love to have family stories about it to add. It would be great reading material, don't you think? The place was called "Muscle Shoals" and it was downriver from the Kingsland-Rison bridge crossing. We hear the storm - heard the 'freight train' where there ain't no railroad - and got off the river and in the car and went home. Is that location anywhere near your touchdown site? Wilkie

If I am not mistaken, Teeny Rauls was Barney's mother--she had one sister (Pink) and one brother (Wheeler). Teeny married Clyde Sparks after Barney was born. I received most of my information from one of Barney's great-grandson's and I would be happy to forward what I have on his family and his email address to you, if you are interested. My family connection was from Monnie Crook Holderfield. Her daughter, Bernice, married Wheeler Rauls. Jeanette

I am looking for the brothers of Raliegh Reed. Taylor Reed was my Grandfather and was named after William Taylor Reed, the grandson of Raliegh Reed. William Jefferon Reed was Taylors father and John Howard was his father. The Father of John Howard will connect together the two Reed lines with a lot of descendents. Your help and input will be most gratefully appreciated. Many thanks, Pat kittyink@aol.com

Jann, I don't know much about the storm, but that is a good idea for gathering more info. ;) I do know that my great grandmother was hanging out clothes on the clothesline and watched it go by. :/ My great uncle told me that story. He remembers it too. He was just a little tyke. I'll have to persue this. Anyone out there have any stories about that tornado? Let's hear 'em.
