RootsWeb.com Mailing Lists

    1. [ARCLAY-L] message from list owner
    2. the Barnes Family
    3. With all the new computers out there and people new to computers, I think this information will be helpful to some of the new list members. Some messages are being sent to the list in HTML format. Messages sent to any RootsWeb list in HTML format or with an attachment is automatically rejected. These kind of messages overtax the already overburdened system and can cause many problems, so messages have to be formatted in plain text with no attachments. To change to plain text in Outlook Express, click on "Format" at the top of the box in the message you are about to send and click on "plain text." You can go into your address book and set it so all messages sent to this list will be sent in plain text. Open the address book, click on the address for this list, then click on properties. A box will pop up and there is a box in it to check so all messages sent to the list address will go out in plain text, check the box and click OK. If you have some other mail program, there should be some way to change your settings similar to what I have described. Your Internet Service Provider or someone using the same mail program should be able to help if you can't figure it out. The other problem people seem to be having is sending the message to the right address. Notice the word "request" in the following address... ARCLAY-L-request@rootsweb.com This address is for commands only, such as subscribe or unsubscribe. So, if you are about to send a message and the word "request" is in the address, it will NOT be sent to the list members. To post a message to the list members, messages should be sent to ARCLAY-L@rootsweb.com. I have more than one list and inadvertently sent this list address, this morning, to one of the other lists, <blush> so if someone posts here and the message belongs to another county, It is my fault and I will take care of it. I sent another message to the list in question, trying to correct my mistake, but if something slips through, you'll know why. Cathy Barnes List Owner bbarnes@cswnet.com
