Sherfield, prominent Greenway citizen, at that place, Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. McCord of Caruthersville, Mo, assisted by Revs.Darnell and Lanham of Union City, Tenn. The deceased was born in Clay county, Aug. 16, 1873 and died at his home, Monday, June 15th, after an illness of over a year. High blood pressure was given as the cause of his death. He had lived in Greenway for 19 years and in that vicinity the balance of his life. Mr. Sherfield was a prosperous farmer, and took an active interest in the upbuilding of his community. Being deprived of the benefits of a good education in his early life, he wanted to see the present generation educated and worked untiringly for better schools in his district. He served his district as director nine years. He professed faith in Christ, joined the Church of Christ and was baptized by Rev. Tucker 27 years ago. He had been an elder in the church since he became a member. Surviving the deceased, are his widow, and four children, Ben Sherfield, Mrs. Ralph Stone, Mrs. Auda Forrest and Mrs. Lawrence Gray, all of Greenway and one half-sister, Mrs. Fed Gordon of Ripley county, Mo. ------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: the half-sister mentioned is July Belle GIBBS GORDON (married to Pleasant Frederick GORDON).
