    1. ARCLAY Roll Call - Burroughs/Boroughs and others
    2. Shirley S.
    3. I've researched my husband's Burroughs/Boroughs family through census, a few existing obits, online Missouri and Arkansas death records, and other information, but am still missing some pieces of the puzzle. I also hope to find descendants of this family. The name was spelled Boroughs but gradually changed to Burroughs after 1900, but I find it spelled every which way, of course! William Alexander Burroughs (1861-1941) was born in Montgomery Co., NC and died in Clay Co., AR. His wife Emily Phillips (1861-1943) was born in Georgia and also died in Clay Co. They married 1881 in Marshall Co., KY, moved to Missouri for a while, but settled in Clay Co. Their first three children were born in Kentucky, the remainder in Missouri. They are: Silas Burroughs (1881-1963), married Effie Houchin (1887-1926), then Rosa Alma Story (1892-1980). May have had a third wife. Lived in Clay Co., then Pemiscot Co. Silas and Effie were my husband's grandparents, but we don't know much about her brothers Gerald (1907-1964) who lived in Dunklin and/or Pemiscot Cos., Loyd born about 1915 in Clay Co. but died between 1930-1963, and Cleveland born about 1917 in Clay Co. and who lived in Flint, MI at some point, and was listed as Clifford once, but I think that was in error. William Noah Burroughs (1884-9/1975), married Lottie Jane LNU. Settled in Dunklin Co. Does anyone have a cemetery book that might tell me his exact date of death and where he's buried? Leona Burroughs (1885-1967), married Henry Deppe (1886-1970). Moved to Florida. I've been in contact with a descendant of this family. Harvey Burroughs (1886-after 1947). This one is a complete mystery to me. I can find no trace of him after the 1900 census or in WWI draft registration cards under any spelling; yet, he is listed as one of his brother Oliver's survivors in his April 1947 obituary, living in Portageville, MO. Linnie Burroughs (1889-after 1947). Another mystery. According to her mother's obit in 1943, she was Mrs. E. J. Keeton of Shawnee, OK. However, I don't know where she was married and I don't find her by a similar name after the 1900 census, so the obit may be in error or she may have been married to someone else first. I've found so many deaths and remarriages in these families. She wasn't mentioned as a survivor of her brother Silas in 1963. Oliver Lee Boroughs (1892-1947). Unmarried, lived with his parents, then relatives. Daniel Joseph Burroughs (1895-1972). I believe he married an Ida Coffer in 1922 and lived in Greene Co., AR. I tried e-mailing the Greene Co. Genealogical Society for an obit, but didn't get a response. Any suggestions? Dora E. Burroughs (1897-before 1943). Another mystery. Mentioned in her mother's obit as being "one daughter Mrs. Jim Boone having died". Don't know when or where she married or died, so the possibilities I've located aren't conclusive. Glen/Glenn Burroughs (1899-after 1943). A volunteer lookup gave me the information he married Virgie McFadden in Clay Co. in 1920. Can't locate him in the 1930 census, or a WWI draft registration card. His mother's 1943 obit mentions him as living in Decatur, IL, and his brother's 1947 obit mentions him living in Marion, IL. He wasn't listed as a brother's survivor in 1963. I've found much of this research difficult because families move around between Missouri and Arkansas, there are many deaths and remarriages as well as errors in obituaries, and they might go by an unknown middle name! Thank you, Shirley Siltala
