I checked the 1860 and 1870 Census and didn't find anyone that seemed to fit. Based on the 1880 Census, Rachel may have been born in 1860, rather than 1859. If so, then she may not even be on the 1860 Census, depending on what time of year she was born. Also, I looked for her brother Lee Baker in 1860 and 1870 and didn't come up with any obvious matches. Looking at the 1880 Census in Clay County, there doesn't appear to be any other Edens in the area that James and Rachel are living in. The only other Eden household in the county is in Kilgore. There are numerous Bakers in Bradshaw Township, all of whom were related to me. They're not living in the immediate vicinity of these Bakers, though they are living rather close to the Forrests (the Forrests and Bakers were closely related). Of course, in a small township like that, no one lived too far from each other, so I wouldn't make any real assumptions based soley on proximity in this case. Not without any further evidence to suggest a connection between your Rachel and these Bakers. In my database, I don't have anyone to match Rachel or Lee Baker. None of my William Bakers are of an age to be their father, either. However, this my Baker line that was in Bradshaw Township is a bit difficult to sort out, so I'm sure there are people I'm missing and some of them I still don't have their exact relationships completely figured out. You mentioned that your Rachel was married in Dunklin County. Do you have a copy of her marriage certificate? If so, are there any other names on it, such as someone posting bond? Are there any other names or locations on her death certificate that might provide some clues? Incidentally, looking at the 1870 and 1880 Census for Dunklin County, MO, I don't see any Edens. Are you sure either of them actually lived in Dunklin County during that time frame? Actually, Eaton seems to be a much more common name in that region. Have you found your family in records with that spelling? Neighboring Stoddard County, MO seems to have a lot of Eatons, several of which are in Castor Township. Castor is where my other Baker line lived, as well as in Clay Co., Ark. Castor is the only town in Stoddard County that has both Eatons and Bakers living there. Maybe none of that means anything, but since you don't have a lot to go on, it could be something to consider. Is there any evidence that Rachel may have had another name, or that she went by another name (such as a nickname)? Do you have any idea what her initial "M" stood for? Maybe she is listed by that name in the earlier Census. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist. I'm very interested in finding any Bakers in S.E. Missouri and N.E. Arkansas that are connected to either of my Baker lines, so I don't mind helping out if I can.
