    3. Researching SELF, McABEE, DICK, WILLIAMSON in Greene and Clay County Arkansas. In particular, I'm looking for the family of Rachel SELF McAbee, probably born circa 1859-1860. Married Robert Franklin MCABEE sometime between 1882-1890. Rachel may have had a previous marriage to a Lunsford. Later census data lists her place of birth as Arkansas but I've been unable to find census data on her prior to her marriage to R.F. MCABEE. According to older family members, Rachel had a nephew named Perry SELF, a niece, Sarah LANGLEY, and another nephew named Thurston GLASGOW (sometimes a variant spelling of the last name GLASCO or GLASGO). 2. I have quite a lot on the Throgmorton and Corzine line's. Would like to find out more about Maun Throgmorton Gallemore Gumbert's early life. On the Merritt-Mcleskey side- Mary Elizabeth Mcleskey married a Merritt, James Marion I think, don't know where or when except before 1892. James Marion Merritt died after 1895 and before 1900. Mary was living with her mother Sarah Wingo Mcleskey Pinkston on the 1900 census. I am not sure which Mcleskey Sarah Wingo married. also looking for information on my father's World War II service. His discharge records the wrong unit. I am hoping someone in doing newspaper research in the Piggott, Clay County library might run across some mention of him.His name was Richard Throgmorton and he enlisted in November of 1942. I know that some might not think the latter is a genealogy question but I think genealogy is more than just names and dates, it also includes information about the person's life. So before you cry foul please think about whether or not you'd like to know if Great Grandpa was a doctor who took care of the governor or an outlaw who was shot robbing a bank. Sherry

    1. ARCLAY Roll Call: McCracken - Frazier - western Clay County
    2. MFrazier
    3. I'm researching Capt. Joe McCracken (1841-1909) and Aaron Alexander Frazier (1852-aft. 1905) and their descendants around Corning, Success and Palatka, and in Brown, Carpenter and Kilgore Townships. Capt. Joe set up a sawmill in Success 1890 or so and eventually brought three of his sons with him (Colin George, Willis Ransom (WR) and Joseph Wilbert (JW)). His spouse and daughters remained in Leamington, Mersea, Ontario Canada. Capt. Joe made frequent trips back to Canada and died in 1909 in St. Louis while returning from Canada. He is buried in Hitt Cemetery. He also rafted logs to New Orleans and sometimes traveled to Liverpool England with his cargo to complete the sale. He remarried about 1895 to a Carla Lamb in Arkansas and had one son Eugene Ray. WR and JW had a number of varied business enterprises in and around Success and were very involved in civic affairs (Mayor, alderman, school board, good roads commission, election judges, property reassessment committees, etc.). Both WR and JW ended up using the title of Colonel - which may be a follow on to Capt. Joe's assumed title from his days shipping wood out of Ontario Canada. Aaron Alexander Frazier was born in AR in 1852, and married at least three times (Harriet A. Grayum (or Farrington), Sarah T. Mathews (1890), Pearlee Ponds (widow not maiden name 1905)). He had 5 sons and one daughter (America E., John William, Andrew, James Washington, Ernest Andrew and Arthur A.) He was a farmer. Here are my burning questions. Any help in extinguishing these would be very much appreciated: 1. I have very little information on the Frazier line (where they came from, who they married and where they went). Some spouse surnames are Kenley, Hyde and Choisser or Chronister. Any information would be appreciated. 2. I have nothing on Carla Lamb and would like to find an obit for Joseph Wilbert McCracken (1880-1933 and buried in Corning Cemetery). 3. A big part of the Frazier's and McCracken's moved out of Success AR and into Mississippi County MO sometime between 1928 and 1935. I would like to discover why they relocated and exactly when. 4. Does anyone have a reference to learn more about the logging, sawmill and log rafting industries in Clay County in the late 1800s till the woods played out? 5. Does anyone know about the Clay County Cotton Company, when it went out of business, and when cotton growing faded out of business in western Clay County? 6. Does anyone have information about the Great Flood of 1927 and Clay County? I have a Mississippi River Commission map/report that shows that Piggott, Rector, Knobel and Paragould should have escaped, but that Corning and Success were flooded. I recently made a trip to western Clay County to get a proper landscape perspective for what these pioneers may have faced as they made their way. I have about 200 photographs posted on line from Success, Corning (Hitt, Corning, Richwoods, Hite and Brown Cemeteries) and the surrounding lands. If you would like to see if these would help you understand where your folks are from, send me your email and I will send the links. Thanks, Mark Frazier

    1. ARCLAY Roll Call - Burroughs/Boroughs and others
    2. Shirley S.
    3. I've researched my husband's Burroughs/Boroughs family through census, a few existing obits, online Missouri and Arkansas death records, and other information, but am still missing some pieces of the puzzle. I also hope to find descendants of this family. The name was spelled Boroughs but gradually changed to Burroughs after 1900, but I find it spelled every which way, of course! William Alexander Burroughs (1861-1941) was born in Montgomery Co., NC and died in Clay Co., AR. His wife Emily Phillips (1861-1943) was born in Georgia and also died in Clay Co. They married 1881 in Marshall Co., KY, moved to Missouri for a while, but settled in Clay Co. Their first three children were born in Kentucky, the remainder in Missouri. They are: Silas Burroughs (1881-1963), married Effie Houchin (1887-1926), then Rosa Alma Story (1892-1980). May have had a third wife. Lived in Clay Co., then Pemiscot Co. Silas and Effie were my husband's grandparents, but we don't know much about her brothers Gerald (1907-1964) who lived in Dunklin and/or Pemiscot Cos., Loyd born about 1915 in Clay Co. but died between 1930-1963, and Cleveland born about 1917 in Clay Co. and who lived in Flint, MI at some point, and was listed as Clifford once, but I think that was in error. William Noah Burroughs (1884-9/1975), married Lottie Jane LNU. Settled in Dunklin Co. Does anyone have a cemetery book that might tell me his exact date of death and where he's buried? Leona Burroughs (1885-1967), married Henry Deppe (1886-1970). Moved to Florida. I've been in contact with a descendant of this family. Harvey Burroughs (1886-after 1947). This one is a complete mystery to me. I can find no trace of him after the 1900 census or in WWI draft registration cards under any spelling; yet, he is listed as one of his brother Oliver's survivors in his April 1947 obituary, living in Portageville, MO. Linnie Burroughs (1889-after 1947). Another mystery. According to her mother's obit in 1943, she was Mrs. E. J. Keeton of Shawnee, OK. However, I don't know where she was married and I don't find her by a similar name after the 1900 census, so the obit may be in error or she may have been married to someone else first. I've found so many deaths and remarriages in these families. She wasn't mentioned as a survivor of her brother Silas in 1963. Oliver Lee Boroughs (1892-1947). Unmarried, lived with his parents, then relatives. Daniel Joseph Burroughs (1895-1972). I believe he married an Ida Coffer in 1922 and lived in Greene Co., AR. I tried e-mailing the Greene Co. Genealogical Society for an obit, but didn't get a response. Any suggestions? Dora E. Burroughs (1897-before 1943). Another mystery. Mentioned in her mother's obit as being "one daughter Mrs. Jim Boone having died". Don't know when or where she married or died, so the possibilities I've located aren't conclusive. Glen/Glenn Burroughs (1899-after 1943). A volunteer lookup gave me the information he married Virgie McFadden in Clay Co. in 1920. Can't locate him in the 1930 census, or a WWI draft registration card. His mother's 1943 obit mentions him as living in Decatur, IL, and his brother's 1947 obit mentions him living in Marion, IL. He wasn't listed as a brother's survivor in 1963. I've found much of this research difficult because families move around between Missouri and Arkansas, there are many deaths and remarriages as well as errors in obituaries, and they might go by an unknown middle name! Thank you, Shirley Siltala
