    1. ARCLAY JOHN R. LEWIS
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: CharMcChris Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.clay/3209/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am still trying to find who the parents/siblings of my great grandfather, John Richard Lewis, were. He was born in Feb. of 1863 in MO. He married Sarah Frances Snider in Oct. of 1900 in Dunklin Co. She was the daughter of Benjmain Franklin Snider and Elizabeth Bailey of Dunklin Co. John may have been mnarried before and lived in Colorado for awhile before coming back to Dunklin Co. John is living as a boarder on the 1900 census in Campbell with a Henry Mattson? family. I cannot find Sarah and family on the 1900 census although I am sure they are in Dunklin Co. The census says that John's father was born in Kentucky. John and Sarah moved to Clay Co., AR between 1900 and 1903 when their oldest daughter, Gracie Agnes Lewis, was born. She was my great aunt. John and Sarah were still in Clay Co., AR on in 1909 when their youngest daughter, Bessie Lennie Lewis (my grandmother) was born. Sarah died either giving birth to or shortly after Bessie was born. John and the girls are in Clay Co., AR on the 1910 census, John is a widow. John remarried between 1910 and 1920 to an Underwood in Clay Co. AR. He was still in Clay Co., AR in 1920. His second wife died before 1920. They had two children, a son, Wilburn, born in 1911 and a daughter, Opal Irene, born in 1915. John remarried between 1920 and 1930 to a lady with the last name of Keys/Keyes in Clay Co., AR. She died before 1930. John and Sarah's oldest daughter, Gracie Agnes Lewis, (Agnes) married Leonard Boyd (Boyd)Vinson in Oct. of 1919 in Piggott in Clay Co., AR. They were living back in Dunklin Co., MO by 1922 when their second child, Dorothy was born. They remained living in Canpbell the rest of their lives. They are both buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. John Lewis is living in Ash Hill Twp. in Butler Co., MO on the 1930 census. He is living next door to his youngest daughter, Bessie, and her husband, Willis Brown, with son, Wilburn and daughter Opal Irene. John R. Lewis, lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Agnes and Boyd Vinson from around 1931 until he died in May of 1933 of cancer. It says on his DC that he also had something on his forehead above his right eye. His DC says that he was buried in Pollard in Clay Co., AR but was instead buried in Rocky Hill Cemetery outside Campbell for some reason. There are a lot of Lewises in and around Dunklin Co., MO I can't help but think that some of them must be related to my great grandfather. I would appreciate any help. Waddle, M.D. I have a few photographs from the 1920's I can share. The Waddle house in Success is one of two structures in the town listed in the National Registrar of Historic Places (http://www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com/AR/Clay/state.html) I visited the Waddle house last August and it is in need of urgent care, but is can be saved if someone takes action soon. I can send more information about it if interested. >From the National Register listing: "The significance of this Waddle House is the period of time it was built. A time when the town of Success, Arkansas, was at a peak of industry in timber and agriculture. The Waddle House was built in 1909 by a prominent pioneer doctor, M.V.B. Waddle, M.D. Dr. Waddle went into military service during World War I. As a doctor and upon his discharge he and his family moved to Doniphan, Missouri, where he started a medical practice. The residence was sold to Doctor Richard Lynch in 1924 another prominent doctor of the area. Dr. Lynch died in the late twenties but his family lived in the house until the early thirties, when they moved away." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (Neeley) Harber was married to a Mr. Sauels before she married George Harber. Other sources gave that as Sorrells or Sorrell. Ms. Cullum stated that Mary's brother, Thomas G. Neeley was married to Penny Sauels. So, from the info passed along to me from other researchers, it does appear that Thomas Grover Neeley was married to Penny Sorrells. Of course, as with his sister, Mary L. Neeley Harber, he may have been married more than once, so the spouse you have listed could be his other wife. Please contact me at [email protected] to get the ancestors of Thomas G. Neeley as they appear in my database and to compare notes on the rest of his family. -- Tim Gatewood, Memphis, TN Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
