    2. Kathi Whittamore
    3. I am looking for information on my grandfather's brother, Alfred (Alford) McCLURE. He was born in Yarbro, Mississippi County, AR on 6 December 1905 and died 7 September 1984 in Piggott, Clay County, AR. He was 79 years old at his death. He did live in MO for awhile and moved back to AR. His parents are Dona P. BUNCH and John Thomas McCLURE (McLURE). Any information like wife and children would be very helpful. Thanks, Kathi Whittamore PO Box 75 Ward AR 72176

    1. Wells in Clay Co., AR
    2. Sarah Kleimeyer
    3. I am very interested in information to be found on James C. Wells. His family lived near Corning, probably in Success. I know that the Clay County Courier newspaper books Life and Times have numerous mentions of this family listed in the index. I would like to know if anyone has the books and what they think of them. From what I can see, the three books will cover about 10 years (1893-1899, 1900-1901, & 1902-1903) of the time that they lived in Clay Co. Personal info on James C. Wells: b. 25 Nov 1837, Hardin Co., TN, d. 27 Nov 1907, Coweta, Oklahoma. Married 3rd to Pheruby (Fereby, Phebe, Pheriba, etc.) Polk. She was born in Sep 1841 in Hardin Co., TN and died after 1900 in Coweta, OK. James had two daughters, Rachel and Lela, and a son, Ulysses from his first marriage. A second son, Uriah Cuthbert "Bert" Wells was born to his 2nd wife and stayed in TN with his mother after the divorce. With Pheruby, he had twins Lena (male) and Minnie (female), son Boyd and son Elbert. Minnie married Columbus Hitt and had a son named Elmer. She died in 1898 and Elmer went to live with his grandparents. Elbert also died before the 1900 census was taken because they list Pheruby as having had 4 children, only 2 living. Lena lived with his parents and Boyd married Florence Barton so we know who was living. James left Tennessee in 1875 and was in Cowan Twp., Wayne Co., MO in 1880. One of the daughters from his first marriage (identified as Adelia) was with them along with Ulysses and the 4 children from his third marriage. I suspect that the other daughter was married and living close by (or dead) by then because there is no record of these daughters marrying in Tennessee. It is the period after 1880 that I don't have information on. I would like to know what is in the newspaper books to see if they would be valuable to me. I think it is possible that the news article on Elbert in the 1893-1899 book is his obituary. I have copied the page numbers needed in the books. Does anyone have access to these in your library, personal or public? Any information on this family would be appreciated! Thanks, Sarah
