With all the new computers out there and people new to computers, I think this information will be helpful to some of the new list members. Some messages are being sent to the list in HTML format. Messages sent to any RootsWeb list in HTML format or with an attachment is automatically rejected. These kind of messages overtax the already overburdened system and can cause many problems, so messages have to be formatted in plain text with no attachments. To change to plain text in Outlook Express, click on "Format" at the top of the box in the message you are about to send and click on "plain text." You can go into your address book and set it so all messages sent to this list will be sent in plain text. Open the address book, click on the address for this list, then click on properties. A box will pop up and there is a box in it to check so all messages sent to the list address will go out in plain text, check the box and click OK. If you have some other mail program, there should be some way to change your settings similar to what I have described. Your Internet Service Provider or someone using the same mail program should be able to help if you can't figure it out. The other problem people seem to be having is sending the message to the right address. Notice the word "request" in the following address... ARCLAY-L-request@rootsweb.com This address is for commands only, such as subscribe or unsubscribe. So, if you are about to send a message and the word "request" is in the address, it will NOT be sent to the list members. To post a message to the list members, messages should be sent to ARCLAY-L@rootsweb.com. I have more than one list and inadvertently sent this list address, this morning, to one of the other lists, <blush> so if someone posts here and the message belongs to another county, It is my fault and I will take care of it. I sent another message to the list in question, trying to correct my mistake, but if something slips through, you'll know why. Cathy Barnes List Owner bbarnes@cswnet.com

I found a Benjamin H White born about 1830 in Tennessee, married Nancy Jane ?, children Ruben S., Eliz Catharine and Thomas C. In the 1860 and 1870 this family was living in Lawrence County Arkansas. I also have a Abraham married to Barbary F. ? who I am guessing is Benjamin H's father. Can any one see a connection to this family? This family also lived in Corning Arkansas in the 1930's. My wife Frances' father is Henry Joseph Fuller (born 1896), who married Nona Vivian Heath of Piggott/AR. She was born 5/23/1905. Both are dead and buried at Highland cemetery near Cherokee Village. The parents of Nona Vivian Heath are John McClellan Heath and Sarah Heath (born Hand). Both are also buried at Highland cemetery. Nona Vivian Heath of Piggott had several brothers and sisters (Robert, Herbert, Ruth, etc), but that is just about all we know about her background. We noticed the HEATH surname in the Clay County cemetery listings as well as in the Clay County marriage index. Any information regarding the background of Sarah Hand and/or John McCleallan Heath is greatly appreciated. Karl H. Becker, Henagar/AL.

First, I have a Mr.Holcomb who married into the Barnwell family. Most of the family came to Clay County, Arkansas from Tenn., but I am not sure if Nancy P. Barnwell and this Mr. Holcomb did. However, if you would like a ccopy of your Henry Holcomb's signature, just get the 1880 Clay County census. He was the enumerator for the area around Piggott-St.Francis (old name Chalk Bluff). His signature and each of the families names are in his handwriting. Wait, I just found something. In the 1880 census of Chalk Bluff Township (NE of Piggott), there is a listing of 69 year old Mary Merideth (born in Tenn.) living with son James Barnwell, 27 years of age (born in Tenn), and grandson Luther Holcomb, age 7 (born in Ark). She is said to be widowed in 1880, with parents being both born in North Carolina. What is interesting to me is that this James Barnwell may be a relative of mine, as the neighbors of the Meridith woman are related as my great great great aunt. I haven't been able to find out if this Barnwell is mine or not,as it is a common name in the area. I hope this helps you in your search. Let me know if I can be of further help to you. Mitch Lutzke

HENRY HOLCOMB "Brother Henry Holcomb was born November 17, 1832, in Shelby County, Tennessee. His parents were Asa and Mary Holcomb. He moved with his parents to Arkansas in 1836 and located in Greene County (now Clay County) where Boydsville is now. He married Esenieth Forrest in 1850. To this union eleven children were born. After the death of Esenieth, he married Sarah F. Meredith 1869, who bore nine children to him. He professed faith in Christ and was baptized by Peter Nicholas for New Hope Church in 1852 and was ordained a deacon in 1858. As a singer he was excelled by only a few. This ability was shown in many of the family. He served a total of 23 years as the clerk of the association, eight years in the Bethlehem Association and fifteen years after the name was changed to Gainesville. He was the father of J. R. Holcomb. He passed away in 1917 and is buried in the Holcomb Cemetery east of Pollard, Arkansas." I agree that your "Pickett" is probably "Piggott". There is also an article on J. R. Holcomb in the book if you would like to have that. Hope this helps. Mabel.
