A bunch came up, three of which are located in or near peach orchard. This website is VERY useful for looking up features that other online maps won’t locate, such as cemeteries (obviously), waterfalls, bridges, beaches, etc. if you just need a map of a town, check out: http://www.mapquest.com after the map comes up, you can zoom in or out by clicking on one of the buttons on the far left. They range from “nation” (wide view) down to “street” (narrow view). If you want to print it, click on “printable map” on the right side. That will give you a page with just the map on it, so you don’t have to print all the other commercial stuff around it. saves some ink. A very good search engine is: http://www.divanet.com/search/ this is actually a collection of search engines, and I’ve found it to be very useful. You can use it to find locations on maps, find people, businesses, etc. . This is an automatically-generated notice. 2. Betty Higgs Howlett and Gena Gates Lally Mesa AZ wrote I am married to a person from Knobel, the next small town NE of Peach Orchard. The big funeral home in Corning is Ermert. Mr. Ermert is now the mayor of Coring. There may be another cemetery by the name of Hosea. I received a lot of help from a very knowledgeable lady in Piggott. She is sort of a county historian. I sent her a cash donation for her effort. I don't know what she can do for you. The lady is Cammila Cox at ccox@piggott.net. Lots of luck in your search. Phil Di Matteo

    3. To those who are interested....Peach Orchard is in Clay County. If it was in Randolph at one time, I am not aware of it...BUT it is rather close to the county line so possible. I have a cousin who was raised in Peach Orchard. She tells me that there are only 2 cemeteries in the area that she is aware of. Pirtle, which I mentioned earlier and is several miles outside of the town of Peach Orchard, to the west. And Brown's Chapel cemetery. This is in no way is answering Ruth's question however. Ruth, Peach Orchard is a tiny little place. I doubt seriously that there are many computers there. I have yet to make contact with any one there in 2 years on line. Most of the younger people have left, going to the cities for work. I do not know if you will find someone who would be going to Peach Orchard who could look this up. I have had luck contacting funeral homes in the area where the deceased died. The only funeral home I am familiar with in Corning is...shoot, can''t remember the name, but my grandfather died in P.O. in 1943 and they prepared his body. It is Emmett or Ermet something or other. Try getting on the ARCLAY-L@rootsweb list. They are very helpful, and I am sure if you request it, that someone will send names and addresses of the Corning area mortuaries. I have found these to be good sources of information and they usually reply quickly. I have not requested a death certificate from AR, but most states will search for a set number of years for you when you request a death certificate but do not have a date. Can someone elaborate on this? Gena Gates Lally Mesa AZ At 10:13 PM 3/20/99 EST, you wrote: >Hi, I am thinking that there were some Higgs buried in Peach Orchard? I have a copy of A History of the Current River Baptist Association by Leroy Carson Tedford, published in 1947 by the General Baptist Publishing House in Poplar Bluff, MO. I have discovered a little helpful information for my own genealogy in this publication, so I'm offering to help anyone who might have Baptist ancestors. Most churches and people listed are Southern Baptist, but there are a few other denominations included. Before contacting me, please note the following: 1. The Contents are: I. General History II. Institutions Ouachita-Maynard Academy Ravenden Springs Encampment Southern Baptist College III. Churches Active Churches Extinct Churches IV. Biographical Sketches V. Fifth Sunday Meetings and Debates VI. Organizations Sunday School Training Union Woman's Missionary Union VI. Appendix Minutes of First Session, 1881 Historical Talbes Miscellaneous Pioneer Churches and Services 2. I will be glad to do lookups as my time permits, but please bear in mind that the only way I can do this is to literally skim through all 144 pages. 3. There is NO index of any kind to this book, although there is a short bibliography. 4. If you are looking for someone in particular, please tell me which section (see "Contents" above) you want me to look under. 5. If you know your ancestor was associated with a particular church or organization, please tell me. Sometimes information is given here that is not given in the Biographical Sketches. For instance, I discovered while reading the section "Active Churches" that my own ancestor, Thomas J. Watson, was a devout believer in the ordinance of "foot-washing". This information was not given in his biographical sketch, however. 6. I will not be available to answer ANY e-mail March 24 - 31, so if you don't hear from me during that period, please do not re-send your e-mail. In fact, even outside of these dates, it may take me a few days before I can give you an answer. 7. I have a hunch that there might be a copy of this book at Southern Baptist College, so if you're located near there, you might drop by & see if they've got it. Also, check out the libraries at Pocahontas and Corning. 8. Lastly, I'm working on the surnames of WATSON, ADAIR, and PARK in Randolph & Clay Counties, so if anyone has any information regarding those families, please let me know. .
