I am looking for possible sale of land that belonged to my ggrandfather. He purchased in 1903-1905 (hard to read) a tract of land (40 acres) from Harrison land offison in Harrison ark. according to census record for 1910 he lived " Kentucky/newton county ark.) However I can not seem to find him after he purchased the land. I have the description of land but have no idea where it is. I am not sure what twp.ranges etc mean when reading them I know twp stands for township but I mean the numbers. anyway his name was William L. (W.L. ) tOWNSLEY b. 1848 Ga. would like to know where he went after purchasing land. His wife is in 1910 census for Oklahoma as a "widow" but Arkansas and oklahoma both say they have no death record. We do not have a death date or actual place on him. If I could locate when land was sold perhaps it would tell me approximately when he died. I think it was around 1908-1909 in Oklahoma We found a tombstone (hard to read but a "W" is legible on it ) The stone is next to his wifeabout 5 years before she died in 1916 we suspect this is him as his tiny stilborn daughter is next to him (he is in middle) Dau died Aug 1908 Wife died 1916 but is on 1910 census as widow. perhaps he died in Ark and they move him to oklahoma for buriel. Thanks for help or suggestions cora miller
You might try sending your message to the Newton List on Rootsweb. Also, check out www.wc.rootsweb.com. Someone there is researching your Wm, but he does not have a date of death either. Many states did not reach full compliance on the death certificates until the 19teens (or even later...NM didn't have a Vital Stats until 1920). This may be one reason you cannot find the death :( Also, I'd look into the wife and her death as much as I could. See if there was a funeral home or something associated with her burial. Does the cemetery in OK have any records of who's buried there? Get her obit. Get her will or settlement of estate....it may mention land in AR. And while you are checking her out you may run into your William. Good luck, Cheri Mello Torrance, CA
thanks I have her death cert. aparently according to muskogee public library /court house etc. She was widowed and living with her daughter in 1910. she died of "Brights" disease which is a kidney ailment (according to funeral home records there was no obit published. She died in 1916. I do have her death cert. her husband I believe is buried next to her but I can only make out a '"w" on stone but no dates. their stil born daughter is on his other side she died in aug 1909 No information on her either. No death cer on file and ceme has limited records for thet time period. We do not know which funeral home handeled her. Muskogee s funny there is only one of about 40 cemeteries owned by city This would be Greenhill cem and part of the cem is still owned by a Catholic church St. Josephs The remaining cemeteries some very large is a mystery as to owns them. Irecently inquired as to who I speak if I need to buy a plot. nobody could tell me. I asked about county and countyonly owns one "pauper" cem. It is not the one my family is in. I am going to try to find out more about the daughter as well perhaps she sold land in ark. I am blind and am trying to do most of my stuff by internet. thanks for help cora miller ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cheri Mello" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 25, 2007 5:51 PM Subject: Re: [ARCARROL] I need some help /look up > You might try sending your message to the Newton List on Rootsweb.
