    1. [ARCARROL] Holman and Qualls in Hamilton Co., TN 1830
    2. Joan & Bob
    3. On the 1830 census for Hamilton Co., Tennessee there are William Holman (spelled Holeman), William Qualls and James Qualls, all living in close proximity to one another. Does anyone know if this William Holman is the same one who came to Carroll Co. between 1830-1840? He has five daughters all aged under 15 years, which comports nicely with what little is known of William's family. He also has two sons, one under 5 and the other between 10-15. Lastly, are these two Qualls families related to the Qualls who also came to Carroll Co. at about the same time? Bob in Williamsburg, VA

    1. [ARCARROL] Seeking Info. on Foster, Holman in Carroll & Madison Co's.
    2. Joan & Bob
    3. Has anyone on this list done any serious research on the Holman/Holeman families of Carroll and Madison counties? After conversing with my Foster relatives in McIntosh Co., Oklahoma I'm now of the opinion that the Nancy who married John Forrester/Foster about 1837 in AR (these were the parents of the Harris Foster who married Elizabeth Drucilla Harbison) was a Holman. I'm also leaning toward the idea that she was the sister of the Millie Holman Boren who was the third wife of Smith Barlow Harbison/Harvison. I believe this explains the notation on the 1880 Madison Co. census that lists Nancy's son Harris Foster as a nephew of Barlow and Millie. I tried to make sense of this by pursuing the theory that he was a nephew of Barlow Harbison. But this didn't pan out. Barlow did not have any siblings born before 1831, nor did he have, as far as I can tell, have any first or second cousins named Nancy. Because of the courthouse fire, I know that doing research in early Carroll Co. is nearly impossible without coming across outside clues or documents. For instance, on the early tax records there are listed William Foster (1838), Henry Foster (1840, 1841), Thomas Holman (1838), William Holman (1838), Mary Holman (1840). Despite obviously being present these people do not show up on the 1840 census. I suspect that an entire section of the county was missed by the enumerator. A careful review of later censuses reveals that the Fosters and Holmans lived in close proximity to one another for many decades. There is even the intriguing proximity of Holemans to the family of William Marion Wood (b. KY) and his wife Martha Foster (b. VA) on the 1850 Carroll Co. census. Martha Foster Wood and her brother Richard Foster came to Carroll Co. from Illinois and were the children of Claibourn Foster and his wife Mary, both from VA. They may finally point the way to the VA origins of my long elusive Fosters. Since I live in VA these days I am in a good position to pursue the necessary research, as long as I know the county or counties to look. I am now trying to tie these many threads together. To that end I am desirous of finding out where in Tennessee the Holmans and Fosters were prior to moving to NW Arkansas. My current thinking leads me to the Rutherford-Bedford-Lincoln Co. area. Does anyone have any thoughts? Bob Foster Williamsburg, VA

    3. FYI: Some email servers (Gmail is one) does not return your own posts, so you never see them come through. Kind of annoying. Too bad there's not a button somewhere which allows one to decide if reading one's own posts is what one would like to do. Since I don't know your Howard family, I don't know what to think. Was your Darling Howard born c. 1820? Where? Is the 1880 guy born in the same place? Who did Darling marry? Does that info match the 1880? 1. [ARCARROL] SHARPE, Cecil & Iola DUNKIN marriage
    2. mstephen
    3. I am trying to find a marriage between Cecil E SHARPE and Iola Mae DILLON (widow DUNKIN) somewhere and sometime between 1944 and her death in 1962, probably 1958 or later, maybe as early as 1944. They were from Little Rock, Arkansas, but were not married there. Someone suggested they may have gone to Carroll County. She was originally from Missouri, he was from England; both born approx 1882. Would anyone be able to look for this? Marie

Just can't connect my Samuel K.Richardson (b. 1806 GA) to any of the Richardson Clans. Census says his parents came out of SC. but there are lots of Richardson there and it gets back to before the first census. Nice to heard from you. Margrett

    2. I noticed in the Carroll County census that there are two Jefferson Davises and each on has a Jefferson and a Martha but the one that has the Jefferson married to a Mary is the one I am looking for.The one is married to a Catherine Standlee but the other Jefferson doesn't list a wife only his son is listed with a wife named Mary.I think the one I am looking for went from Ky>Tex.>Ark.>KY.I find the ones I am looking for in Livingston County Ky.in the 1870 census, they come out of Arkansas and I believe they were the in Carroll County Ark.,they are listed as coming from Arkansas.
