She and her husband, Martin Van Buren Browder, left Florida and headed to Texas about 1874. Allegedly, Eliza and 4 children died of swamp fever along the way. I can find no documentation, explaination nor reasoning as to why they were in Arkansas. Family lore says that Martin buried his wife and 4 children in a "common grave" and fenced it off with cypress wood. He then continued on to Texas with his young daughter Belle Matilda.
