My primary Calhoun Co. interests are ancestors and descendants of 1) Augustus MADERA b. 1800-1804 VA, and of 2) Arthur PARKER b. abt. 1811 GA whose son Thomas A. PARKER married 1856 Martha DAVIS b. 1840 Pike Co., AL, daughter of William and Elizabeth DAVIS of Pike Co. Re. John Atwood's post, copied below, Augustus Madera's presumed daughter Charlotte married Thomas B. BYRD 1847 Union Co., AR. Thomas B. BYRD is reported to have died 7 Apr 1863, during the Civil War, in a hospital at Atlanta, GA. Three BIRD children, Elizabeth, Augustus, and Richard, were in Augustus Madera's household in the 1870 Calhoun Co. census. James L. BIRD was in T. F. Madera's household in that census. T. A. (or N) BYRD, W. A. BYRD, R. B. BYRD, and T. F. CLEMENTS (husband of Elizabeth BYRD) inherited from Augustus's estate. Augustus Madera sold land in Calhoun Co. Nov. 1, 1873 to W. A. BYRD and carried notes for $1,000 without interest. I believe this to be the Augustus BIRD of the 1870 census and the William Augustus BYRD of John Atwood's post. Susan MADERA married Johnston (Johnson?) M. CRUSE 1854 in Union Co. Sarah MADERA married George B. SAUNDERS 1860 in Calhoun Co. Both are suspected to be daughters of Augustus Madera. Augustus Madera's son Thomas F. MADERA married 1867 Prucilla LAMBERT, daughter of Elbert and Susan Elizabeth A. LAMBERT, and married 1878 Levonia L. "Betty" PARKER, daughter of Thomas and Martha DAVIS PARKER. Another son James R. MADERA did not marry. Still another son, William MADERA, has not been identified after the 1850 Union Co. census. Arthur and Martha DAVIS PARKER's descendants connect in Calhoun and Bradley Co. with many other surnames. I would enjoy hearing from all connections. They lived in the Champanolle area. My great grandmother was Mittie Florence Byrd Stringfellow. Her parents were William Augustus Byrd and Sophronia Lee Byrd whom I know nothing of except they were from Calhoun Co. I would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about these families. Thanks, John Atwood
Thank you so much for this info that relates to the Byrds. The Parker name caught my eye also. My Great Great Grandfather Robert Baxter Stringfellow married Martha Caroline Parker. They were married August 3, 1870. Do you know anything of her? I wonder if she is from this same Parker family. Thanks, John Atwood
