Those are my Calhoun County Witherington "cousins", all three of the Witherington boys (see below) were sons of my 3rd Great Grandparents, John & Mary Ellis Witherington of Fayette Township, Calhoun County, AR. They were the brothers of my 2nd Gr-Grandmother, Martha Caroline Witherington, who married John T. King in Conecuh County, AL (between 1840-1843). Both families migrated together to Calhoun County about 1846. Notes: Alonzo Dossen Witherington born 1847 in Union/Calhoun County. William JamesWitherington born 1836 in Alabama. Since then the best records available to us have been the 1890 property tax receipts of the counties concerned. Calhoun County was formed of portions of Dallas & Ouachita counties in December 1850. The residents of the three adjoining counties frequently found themselves reflecting this history without intention to do so. One who had previously had land in Dallas County might now find that land partially in Dallas County and partially in one of the other counties. Thus, the landowners might find themselves now paying property taxes in two counties rather than one.
