Born in Hampton, Sept. 16, 1903, the son of Cicero and Bertha Cates, he had lived in El Dorado the past 25 years. He was owner of the Randolph Barber Shop and the Busy Bee Cafe. He married the former Miss Blanche Womble, Jan. 18, 1923. Other than his widow, he is survived by two sons; Lamar Cates, El Dorado, and Kenneth Cates, Port Arthur, Texas; two grandsons, Donnie and Jimmie Cates of El Dorado, a sister, Mrs. Alma Mabry, Houston, Texas; and his mother, Mrs. Bertha Jinks, El Dorado. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Barton Funeral Home by Rev. E. T. Carruth, Baptist minister, assisted by Rev. W. E. Dorman. Interment was in Arlington Cemetery in El Dorado.
