C. Smiths and William C. Smith's listed there. Review what regiments were formed from that county and see if you can get a match. Was there a Civil War Pension for him or his widow? I did some preliminary review and there is a William Smith who died 8-5-1900 in the pension records. This is a possible fit - he servied Owen's Battery Application Number: 6586 - the listed widow is Sarah E. Owen's Battery, Arkansas Light Artillery Owens' Battery [also called Monticello Artillery] was organized during the fall of 1862 with men from Drew County. The company was active in Mississippi and Tennessee, then in the summer of 1864 moved to Mobile Bay, Alabama. Later it was broken up and the men transferred to McCown's-Hubbard's-Thrall's Arkansas Battery. Its captain was James A. Owen. That is one possibility you'd have to verify records.
