I am in possession of an Arithmetic Text Book by Joseph Ray, M.D., Law Professor at Woodward College. The binding of the book is in above average condition (for its obvious age) and bears the title: Ray's New Higher Arithmetic. The book bears a copyright of 1880 by Van Antwerp, Bragg & Company, New Higher, Arkansas. Published in Cincinnati in July 1880. Appears to be a secondary (high school) level text book. The book has the stamped name of J. H. Medley, Locust Bayou, Calhoun County, AR. It also bears the handwritten names of Willie Medley and Gertrude Medley, both of Locust Bayou, Ark. In addition, the name of Harvey Smith is written in pencil on one of the fly covers of the book. The book was mailed to me years ago by someone who picked it up at a garage sale in Arkansas. If you are a MEDLEY family researcher and wish to have the book, I will be happy to mail it to you at no cost. If not, I plan to donate the book to the Calhoun County Library, Hampton, AR. Notes: My KING and WITHERINGTON families migrated to Calhoun County about 1846 from Alabama. My father, William Riley King (Sr.) was born in Calhoun County in December 1898, and grew up on his grandmother's farm in lower Calhoun County (Mrs. Catherine C. King, 1847-1914, widow of William R. King). Both of these Kings are buried at the old abandoned Moody Farmplace Cemetery down near Artesian in Southern Calhoun County. Bill King Houston, TX 281-493-6767 BillKing78@comcast.net
