My great-great-grandfather was Johnny Melga Morrison. Officially it was John Melger Morrison but my Aunt calls him Johnny Melga. John was born in 1887 to Arminda (possibly Ethridge, I've seen a Calhoun marriage between her and a J.H. Morrison). Arminda was called "Grandma Garner" in my family and I've come to believe that the Garner name was short for Bumgarner. Apparently her mother was Cynthia Bumgarner and she apparently married a T.E. Bumgarner after J.H. Morrison's death, but I'll need more information to determine what their relationship was. (By the way, this is embarrassing, but I read BUMGARNER as BURNGAMER on the 1920 census where she is listed as the wife of T.E., so if I sent anyone a message asking about Bumgamer, my apologies if you're still scratching your head). Now, I'd like to know who J.H. Morrison was, or if there are any Morrisons in Calhoun searching their trees that know he did not die before 1900 and would like to correct me on that point. If he is my great-great-grandfather, I'd love to know more about him. My great-grandfather, John Melger Morrison, had brothers named Frank, Joe, and I think George. If my calculations from census records are correct, these would be their approximate birth years: Joe about 1883 Frank about 1885 George about 1895 For some odd reason, George does not seem to be listed on the 1900 census living in the T.E. Bumgarner household though all the other boys are. As for Johnny Melga, he married Ethel Stanton in 1906 and they had the following children together: William (b. 1908) Artie (b. 1909) Orville "Uncle Skinny" (1910) my grandmother, Rosie or Rose Lea (1911) Onie (b. 1919) and Johnnie If anybody has more information on this family, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
