This message to Ruth Stanton who has ancestor Harrison Stanton from Calhoun County, AR. Please email me direct as I've lost your address and phone #, and would like to make plans to share notes. Pat
We have a John Hollingsworth in our family that moved to Bowie County Texas sometime between 1900 and 1920. He married into the family ,one of Harrison Stantons grand-daughters, I think. Anyway, you might want to look in Texas. ----- Original Message ----- From: Mary Matichak <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 11, 2001 11:04 PM Subject: [ARCALHOU] looking for a date > Posted on: Calhoun Co. All, Despite repeated warnings about opening attachments folks are still doing this. My Norton Anti Virus picked up a Badtrans Virus sent to me from one of the subscribers to this list today. The e-mail virus DID NOT come THROUGH the list! I had posted a message to the Calhoun county queries which was sent to this person as a subscriber, in turn when she/he did not reply to the message the Badtrans virus was automatically sent to me by her computer. This person probably had no idea that they are infected. I sent them an e-mail to notify them and where to go to get rid of the virus. I can't emphasize enough how important it is NOT TO OPEN ATTACHMENTS! Also it is imperative that you have a good Anti Virus detector such as Norton which gives you regular updates on viruses. I am the list-mom on two mailing lists and it can create so many problems. I repeat, you will NEVER recieve a virus from this mailing list, but you can get one from someone who is a subscriber to this lis! t. I have purposely not given the name of the subscriber as they are most likely unaware that have it (until they get my e-mail). Please be careful, this Badtrans is a nasty little bug! Thanks, Debbra A. Szymanski
Dear List Members, We are trying to work our way through this latest Virus War we are in. I have a couple of requests, please read them. 1. DO NOT POST YOUR OWN VIRUS WARNINGS TO THE LIST. PLEASE LET ME HANDLE THIS. If you feel you have a message that is important regarding the virus contact me first. Let me decide if and when to post it. If every member posts when the get the virus, who is sending the virus, what they did to get rid of the virus we will be completely over loaded with virus messages. 2. DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT unless you know what it is. I don't care how inviting the subject line is, "homepage", "Read this", etc. We still have list members who, without thinking are opening these attachments and the virus begins all over again. Know that I am here and contacting the infected members and removing them from the lists until they get there systems clean. Remember that this virus is not being spread via Rootsweb, but is being spread via attachments that are being sent out by rootsweb members. If you get a message from me that you have it and are being unsubscribed until you get your system clean, don't be upset, it is not you and we will welcome you back. I am just trying to get this under control for all of us. If you want additional information on what a virus is go to http://ca.com/virusinfo/faq.htm it is an informative site. If you don't have a good Virus Scan, I use Norton Anti virus, you need to get one that you trust and fast. If you are not sure what kind to get, you might want to join the virus discussion list to get additional information on the different programs. [email protected] Again, I appreciate your support and your willingness to do all that is necessary to help make our list the success it is. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Posted on: Calhoun Co. Ar Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Calhoun/10214 Surname: Turner, Dawson, Connery ------------------------- Fannie Dawson Turner died 6 March 1902. William then married Casey Connery 24 December 1906 in Calhoun County, Arkansas.
Dear List Members - PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS on the personal e-mail you are receiving without being 100% plus sure who it is from and that it is not a virus and the only way you can be this sure is run a Virus Scan. The new one now is "Homepage" If you open the Homepage attachment, it sends a copy of itself to everyone in your address book. Homepage then randomly chooses an adult Web page to display on the system's default Internet browser." To learn more aobut this one go to http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2708116,00.html Homepage is just one of many. If you would like to know more about all of this you can join the Virus Discussion Mailing list by sending the word Subscribe to [email protected] We are going to be OK. These viruses cannot be sent through Rootweb so it is up to each of us to protect our fellow members. When I get a message from one of you and see that you have the virus, your e-mail address is unsubscribed from the mailing list until you get your computer system clean and then you are welcomed back with open arms. Just remember - do not open ANY attachements unless you are sure it is not a virus. If you are not sure - delete it. Those of us who are deeply nvolved in our genealogical research are so fearful that we are going to delete that one clue, which we have been waiting for, that many of us are opening these attachements - taking the chance - and because of this we are being hit hard by the virus. I appreciate your help with this. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Dear List Members: If you are unsubscribed from the list, and it is not what you wanted, just re-subscribe yourself, don't get upset. If for some reason your address bounced several times, at no fault of your own, the system removes your address from the list. So if you see it happening to you all you have to do is re-subscribe yourself or send me a message and I will take care of it for you. Please be careful and DO NOT OPEN ANY MAIL WITH AN ATTACHMENT unless you are 100% sure you know what it is and even then run a virus scan. You cannot get a virus through the Rootsweb mailing list, but you can receive it from members of the list who's computer system has a virus. As soon as I know one of our members has a virus I unsubscribe them until they can clean their system. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns as to his list or suggestions for the benefit of all the members. Contact me personally please [email protected] For your enjoyment, this link was sent to me to share with you. It is another fun map - and shows when areas of the country were included in a US Census. http://www.segenealogy.com/sgo03.htm Thank you for your support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom
Thought some of our new members would like to see this and some of us old members might like to see it again. :) To see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif Just a reminder. If you would like to know what lists you are on or would like help in unsubscribing go to Rootswebs Password Central, type in your e-mail address and then check "What list(s) am I on? (for subscribers)" Go to the bottom of the page and send. You will receive in a few moments a complete list of all Mailing list you are on and you can unsubscribe from it. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Dear List Members, I was asked to send this out to you by the Arkansas Archives Project. We need some help with the Arkansas Archives Project. Earlier this year we sent out an appeal and did get a few more gracious volunteers. However, there is always too much to do and too little time for those of us who work fulltime. Take a look at our project. Arkansas USGenWeb/ARGenWeb Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/arfiles.htm The projects require that volunteers be able to handle text files and html files. ASCII files are linked on html pages. In addition, volunteers must ftp in ASCII mode and Binary mode. All of the projects are located on Rootsweb fileservers. Rootsweb requires that all copyright laws be honored. Materials copyrighted after 1926 may not be placed in the archives. We need volunteers for the following projects within the Archives: Statewide Surname Project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/family.html County Archives: Arkansas, Ashley, Baxter, Benton, Boone, Bradley, Carroll, Chicot, Clark, Cleburne, Columbia, Craighead, Crawford, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Desha, Faulkner, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Hempstead, Howard, Izard, Jefferson, Lee, Lincoln, Little River, Logan, Lonoke, Montgomery, Perry, Pike, Poinsett, Polk, Prairie, Pulaski, Searcy, Sevier, Sharp, St. Francis, Stone, Unknown, Van Buren, Washington, White, and Woodruff. Also, the Arkansas Archives Coordinaor, Jacquelyn Bonds, would like to remind everyone that Faulkner County is adoptable in The ARGenWeb/USGenWeb Project. Faulkner County Page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~arfaulkn/ If you are interested in adopting any of the Arkansas Archive counties listed above, please contact Jacquelyn Bonds at [email protected] Thanks you!
