I believe Effie's parents are buried in the Tinsman Cemetery. That is the area in which my dad lived. I have a little on the Furgersons, only William's parents, Wilson Furgerson and Elizabeth Wilson. They were listed on the death certificate for William. Have marriage dates and some birth dates. I just keep thinking that someday I will find some children of Effie's siblings that will know some info handed down from William Franklin F So far I have Ben ,( my grandfather), Effie and Annie. That leaves three others. It has been years since I queried Smead and Google maps didn't exist then. I didn't even think about Google when I wrote the query, I guess because it was a long deserted community. Thank you!!! My mother, Mae Esterlene Fletcher, and Pastoria Fletcher Hand were first cousins. My grandfather was Percyville Henderson Fletcher, the brother of Tandy Fletcher, Pat's father. My grandparents, Percyville and Virginia Ellla Nora Dean Fletcher, had a set of twins named Paul and Pauline. They died shortly after birth and are said to be buried at Smead. All my mother's older sisters (she was the baby of the family) always said they were buried there, but didn't know where. I have never known where to look for the community. although it was said to be inside the area that became the Shumaker Naval Depot during WWII. I am not related to any Ferguson's, although I had entered a query in the Bradley County message board becaue I was searching for someone for a friend of my husbands. I have been doing family research since 1968 when I was a senior in high school. I have taped conversations with Pat Hand that my son is trying to get digitized before the tapes are beyond the point of no return. So many of the people my mom and I visited during those early years are gone now, as is my mom who died in 1982 at age 57. I continued to do intense research until my children wouldn't stand still for spending their summers in dusty old records rooms in ancient courthouses!!! I packed it into my file cabinets for years until I got them raised and through college and well established in jobs. Then my husband and I moved to North Arkansas for 6 years where he was a superintendent and I taught English for 5 more years to top off my 28 years at Junction City. The last 6 years I was at JC I was the high school librarian, so going back into the classroom was and adjustment, especially since I had bequeathed all my teaching goodies to a young friend just starting her career. It was like starting all over again! No time for genealogy! In 2006, I retired, bought Family Tree Maker and got back to work. People think genealogy is so easy now with computers, but all may research was done when I had to read negative copies on a microfilm reader and there were no indexes! Things have come a long way. The only thing that bothers me is the fact that so much of my research has been, well, stolen since I put it into the Ancestry database. You know that when they list my mother's birthplace as the Old Stringfellow Place, Calhoun County, Arkansas. Who else but me would name the farm where she was born? It's crazy isn't it AND addictive! Wow! I have really wandered and, I'm sure, bored you to tears. I apologize! Thanks again for the info and reminding that Google is there! If I can help you in any way, don't hesitate to ask! I have Lucinda Smith Roark in my family. She married William Young Henry Blann. Lucinda was the daughter of Jesse Vaughn Roark and Nancy Ann Morris.
I just have Frank...so it is William Franklin Ferguson? You have Furgerson...is that how you spell it? She and Buster married Dec 06, 1901 in Bradley County AR. As far as I know they always lived at that house in Banks. Did you want to call Perry? He's listed in Banks. Do you have a copy of his death certificate? Perry has a copy of his grandparent's Marriage Lic, I think. What was Frank's wife's name/maiden name? Don't you post at the Bradley County Site too? Just leave a comment on the tree with the correct info. I would hope they'd appreciate it. I know I would; but I don't make mine public. And, the reason is: seasoned researchers told me Not to make them public. You don't have the problem that Jamie mentioned plus, when they contact you for more information, you are able to have an exchange of thoughts/ideas/information. And, like you said, it is so nice to be able to make new connections. Do you have a marriage date and place for Ben Hand and Pastoria Fletcher? Tom Reddin ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Armour" <jamie_armour@hotmail.com> To: <arcalhou@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 11:25 AM Subject: Re: [ARCALHOU] (Smead comity) need DAVIS/FURGERSON/AND BRUMLEY info Thanks for the heads up on Google and the Smead community. El Dorado has a very nice library with a genealogy section. I live in San Antonio; and we stopped by there with just an hour and a half to look around on a Saturday. I could have stayed all day. I have Plair and Frisby relatives that lived in Union County, Bradley, and Cleveland County. I need to visit some cemeteries there sometime. And I did some research for a friend that has missing family info that one day I hope to be able to look for in Union County. -----Original Message----- From: arcalhou-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:] On Behalf Of edianegardner Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 10:38 AM To:; arcalhou@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ARCALHOU] (Smead comity) need DAVIS/FURGERSON/AND BRUMLEY info You haven't bored me at all! I have that they married in Calhoun County on Dec 12, 1929. Two of Frank Hand's daughters (Lovie and Bertha) married two of Isaac Jefferson (Jeff) and Josie Stewart Reddin's (Doyle and Stewart) sons. They are buried at Earnest Cemetery in Calhoun County. -----Original Message----- From: arcalhou-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:arcalhou-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jamie Armour Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 10:55 AM To: arcalhou@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ARCALHOU] (Smead comity) need DAVIS/FURGERSON/AND BRUMLEY info I'll check my notebooks and get back to you! > From: reddin59@bellsouth.net> To: arcalhou@rootsweb.com> Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2008 11:37:59 -0400> Subject: Re: [ARCALHOU] (Smead comity) need DAVIS/FURGERSON/AND BRUMLEY info> > Do you have a marriage date and place for Ben Hand and Pastoria Fletcher?> > Tom Reddin> > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jamie Armour" <jamie_armour@hotmail.com>> To: <arcalhou@rootsweb.com>> Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 11:25 AM> Subject: Re: [ARCALHOU] (Smead comity) need DAVIS/FURGERSON/AND BRUMLEY info> > > > Thanks for the heads up on Google and the Smead community. Definitely, Perry Armstrong is her grandson, he lives in Banks, right on the corner as you turn to go to Tinsman as you are leaving town. That is where Buster and Effie lived. Their children, Agnes and Garland are both deceased and both are buried, as are Buster and Effie in the McFarland Cemetery. Perry has some nice picture of "Ma Effie" that is what he called her. And, he has some nice old pictures of the Armstrongs (his Dad's family). I'd love to have a bit more on the Fergusons for Perry's sake (he doesn't "do computers) and I know he'd be happy to hear from you. He was a big help getting ready for the McFarland Cemetery's family get together on May 17th. You haven't bored me at all! I just wish that my in-laws or someone in my family had started earlier and had tapes; that would be awesome. If you have pictures of Pastoria or the Hands or the Reddin's we'd love to share. We have some of Frank Hand and also of R B Hand. R B Hand's daughter Sallie Ann Hand York Reddin is my husband's great grandmother. I am looking for Reddins, Callaway/Calaways, Thomasons, Easterlings, James, some Roarks, Nichols and some collateral families in Calhoun County. Effie Ferguson/Furgeson married William T (Buster) McMurry. He was my grandfather's brother. Their grandson Perry Armstrong still lives in the house in Banks. Then, some of the Nichols married into the Brumleys, or so I am told. What about Pastoria Fletcher that married Larkin B Hand? edianegardner@sbcglobal.net -----Original Message----- From: arcalhou-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:arcalhou-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of GENIA EDMONDS Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 7:33 AM To: arcalhou@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ARCALHOU] (Smead comity) need DAVIS/FURGERSON/AND BRUMLEY info I am related to the Furgerson that married into McMurrys.
