    1. [ARCALHOU] Fw: [ARBRADLE] DAVIS lines of Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Drew? counties
    2. GENIA EDMONDS
    3. I am trying to send this info but the program will not let me send attachments. I really do not want to have to take time to write it all out....the info I have on the amos, abram/ abraham, enos Davis lines... I would be glad to attachment to some other e-mail address. Genia Read below the other davis info... I think your Davis line is at least a third in the area. I also have a Robert D DAVIS b 1901 and a Sam (Sammie J ) DAVIS b 1904 to Josephine Hamilton and David D. Davis I will try to attach a Davis line that I have info on that has an Abram/Abraham , Enos, Amos etc. My people that I'm looking for are the "married into people". This is not my direct Davis line on the attachment. (can't send attachments this way) I highlighted the married into people.. My DAVIS line is DAVID D DAVIS, SON OF MARY DAVIS , FATHER UNKNOWN, and all I know is that they lived in Arkansas and Texas when he was a child. His mother and brother were listed as having typhoid fever on the census..David married Josephine Hamilton sister of Laura and Maggie. Laura Hamilton, and Maggie Martin (half sisters most likely) Married Amos Davis? listed on the census of 1900 and 1910 I believe Laura is or maybe the Sister of My g-grandmother Josephine Hamilton that married David D. Davis Maggie Martin is the 1/2 sister of Josephine Hamilton They each named their daughter Gladys Maybelle Davis would be their maiden names. >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: <roperrl@scinternet.net> >> To: <arbradle@rootsweb.com> >> Sent: Sunday, January 25, 2009 1:42 PM >> Subject: Re: [ARBRADLE] Cleveland Co. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: 1964hodges Surnames: Harcrow, Lucas, Williams Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.calhoun/862.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great grandmother, Janettee Lucas born Aug 6, 1873; she was married to George Benjamin Williams. George was first married to Malinda Adline Lucas. She died after birthing two children, Georgia and Minnie. Malinda's mother was Josephine Russell who married Hartwell M. Lucas. Hartwell M. Lucas was born in Tennessee. He was a farmer. He married three times: (1) Josephine Russell on March 8, 1857 in Bradley CO, AR, (2) Mary Elizabeth Harcrow on November 30, 1872 in Calhoun CO, AR, and (3) Josephine Webb on January 6, 1890 in Cahoun CO, AR. His name might be spelled "Harwell" ; however, "Hartwell" is the way it is listed on Nettie's death certificate. In 1900, Hartwell is a widow. His daughters from two separate marriages were living in this household: Minnie, age 21, and Callie, age 24. Mary Elizabeth Harcrow is my great grandmother's mother. She was born in 1843 in Arkansas and died in 1885 in AR. Mary's father is believed to be Harris Harcrow. See the 1870 Census in Jackson Twp, Hampton, Calhoun, AR, p. 635. She married November 30, 1872 in Calhoun County,AR. See 1880 Census in Calhoun County, AR, Dist 22, page 103; Children of Mary Elizabeth and Hartwell are: Janettee Lucas, Callie L. 1876, Mary or Missy 1879, & Enoch 1880. So Janettee and Mary Elizabeth were half-sisters, sharing the same father. Hartwell M.Lucas' father is believed to be Ansil Lucas from TN who married Frances Johnson. Hartwell M. Lucas is buried in Rick's Cemetery, sometimes called the Abernathy Cemetery in Harrell, Calhoun, AR. Janettee & Malinda are buried there also. I hope I have added something to your search. 1. [ARCALHOU] obit of Shelton Lee DAVIS / FERGUSON / HAMILTON / BRUMLEY lineage 4 generations
    2. GENIA EDMONDS
    3. Shelton Lee Davis, age 72, died March 2, 2007 at his residence in Steens, MS. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Monday, March 5, 2007 at 2:00p.m. with Bishop Robert Honsinger officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday, March 4, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mr Davis was born on April 23, 1934 in Calhoun County, Arkansas to the late Ben (Benjamin Franklin) Ferguson and Gladys Maybelle Davis. He was a member ( and a high priest ) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He worked for 25 years as an engineer for WCBI television and radio, and 10 years as a custodian at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is survived but his wife of 50 years, Lydia Louise (Stringer) Davis of Steens MS (formerly of Union Co, AR and Arizona) daughters; Genia, Elizabeth, Betty and sons; Shelton, and John . Also one Sister Katherine (Josephine Davis, Carter) Coulter of Las Vegas, NV, ten Grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. (His Brother, James H. Davis) passed away about 14 yrs ago in Virginia. Dad was born in Calhoun Co., Tinsman I believe, a graduate of, I suppose, the school in Tinsman where he played basketball. His teacher was Ms. Whitehead. Sometime in the early 50's when he was 20-21, he was stuck with polio. He received many letters from the community near Little Rock as the radio DJ talked about him and is situation. This polio effected him the rest of his life as he always had a limp and would never spend money on a corrective shoe. Growing up poor in Arkansas taught him to do without for the sake of his family. Dad met mom through working with her brothers at the saw mill, in Callion I think. Dad and Mom left Calhoun Co. area in 1959 in order to work and provide for his family. We visited many times until my grandparents passed away. I remember Ben living with us a little while when I was 4 or 5. Maybelle died when I was 11. We didn't make it back much after that. There were other relatives around back then. Great uncle Clarence and Argie Maude (Smith) Richards and their son CW. I knew Carlton and Irvin Taylor, children of Great Aunt Pearl Taylor. There was also great aunt Icie (Isa Lee) that had moved to Wisconsin. I think some time way back there I may have known great-Uncles Robert and Sammie Davis. There was little communication between them all. Shelton's maternal grandparents were Kathryn Josephine Hamilton and David D. Davis. Paternal grandparents were Mary Elizabeth (Malissa) Brumley and William Franklin Ferguson. Many of these family members are buried in Earnest Cemetery, Calhoun Co. AR. Shelton's maternal great-grandparents were John Hamilton ( eldest son of Jack Hamilton) and Catherine Brandon of Bradley Co. AR and Mary Davis (died young with typhoid) and husband unknown. Paternal great-grand parents were Wilson Ferguson and Elizabeth Wilson and Albert Burton Brumley and Martha M. Emerson.

I'm assuming they were quiet, hard-working people who didn't cause much of a stir or have enough money to be noticed all too much.
