I am searching for the grave site for Civil War Soldier JOHN THOMAS KING AKA: 'Thomas' King Born: About 1843 in Conecuh County, AL Died: Nov. 11, 1881 in Union County, AR <He went by the name of Thomas> Son of William Augustus & Sarah King who migrated to the Champagnolle area of Union County before 1850. William Augustus King is buried there at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, east of El Dorado. John Thomas King's wife's name is unknown. He had children that were named in his probate dated 1881. Copied from Union County Probate Records: Administrator's Bond of $3000 was filed on 3 Dec. 1881 at New London, Union County following the death of Thomas King. Hiram King is named as administrator. Heirs named were children: Amanda King, Martha King, Bettie King & Marcus King. Thomas King died on 11 Nov. 1881. John T. King served in Confederacy with the 3rd Arkansas Regiment during the Civil War. Enrolled at Champagnolle, Union CO in 1861 at the age of 18, as a Private for the 'duration of the war'. Fought in most of the major battles of the war (including The Wilderness, Gettysburg and many others) as a member of the 3rd Arkansas Regiment assigned to the command of Colonel Hood of Texas. Was parolled at Appamatox when General Lee surrendered in 1865, holding the rank of Sergeant. His military service record indicates that he was hospitalized for wounds at least twice during the war. Bill King has his complete service record, obtained from Little Rock Civil War Archives, June 28, 1998. Thanks for any help!!!! Lucas and his 1st wife, Josephine Russell. My lineage comes through their 2nd daughter, Martha Ann Lucas. Martha being a half-sister to Janettee "Nettie" Lucas. So, naturally, everything you stated below is information I've had for a very long time. However, I really do appreciate you taking the time to provide the data for it is very thorough and may help someone else in the future. I am more closely related to you through my Abernathy family tree. My grandmother, Mamie Alice Abernathy Mulligan Tims, was a sister to Irene Abernathy, wife of Irvin Napoleon Williams. Irvin being the son of Nettie Lucas and George Benjamin Williams and a brother to Walter Benjamin and Theodocia E. Williams. I have an old photo of Nettie, George, Irvin, Walter, Docia, Georgia, & Minnie. As for the Ricks Cemetery outside of Harrell ever being called the "Abernathy" Cemetery; well, that's news to me and to my older cousins who have lived close to the cemetery all of their life. My great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather Abernathys are both buried there, but the land was donated by Mr. Ricks and that's all it's ever been called. It could be that someone mixed Union Grove Cemetery up with the Ricks for my great-grandfather, Julian Rockett Abernathy, donated the land for the Union Grove Cemetery. The area around the cemetery many years ago was called Summerville and he and his family lived on 400 acres there. It's probably 4-5 miles or less between the two cemeteries. Thanks again for your kind response. VRB Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
