She was born Abt. 1823 in Gwinnett Co, GA3, and died 29 Apr 1904 in Warren, Bradley Co, AR. Notes for Elias D. King: ....OBIT: Ark. Methodist Newspaper/from Jann Woodward Elias D. King was born in Gwinette County, GA, in 1818; joined the M. E. Church, South in 1835; was married to Miss Amanda Douglass in 1841; moved to Clark County, Ark., in 1858; then to Bradley County, Ark., in 1861, from whence he ascended into glory June 5, 1898. Bro. King lived a true and devoted Christian in the Methodist Church for sixty-one years. He was strong, both physically and intellectually; he was a power. Bro. King was a singing master, but seldom used a book in revivals; he was able in prayer and had been an exhorter in our church for twenty long years. He was a great revivalist. Many of the preachers and people of Palestine circuit remember kindly the sweet sons, earnest prayers and exhortations he has made in their meeting. Bro. King would pay, as well as pray. His home was his preacher's home; he was the preacher's from all the way. Nothing he had was too good for his preacher. We visited him a few times this year before he died, and found him a cheerful and devoted Christian, a patient sufferer, and a strong counselor, even in his extreme old age. We preached his funeral on the third Sunday in August at Spring Hill Church, to his loving wife and two daughters, and a host of many friends, whose tears flowed freely in memory of him whom they had learned to love and appreciate. We would say to the bereaved family and friends, live faithful and we will soon meet our dear brother where there shall be no more sorrow, crying, nor pain, and God shall wipe away all tears from our eyes, and there shall be no more death. Any help would be appreciated. ------------------- To: Peggye Wallace Jinks, from Bill King on 24 Dec 2001: I, too, am seeking info on Elias King of Bradley County, about 1870 time period. Elias served as the administrator for the estate of AUGUSTUS LEVAN WITHERINGTON, who was murdered at Moro Bay in Bradley County in 1869. Gus Witherington was my ancestor/uncle, the younger brother of my 3rd Gr Grandfather (John Witherington). I am trying to figure out how Elias King was related to the King-Witherington families, although you indicate that Elias was born in Georgia. Could he have worked on the river steam boat, the MORGAN NELSON, with Gus Witherington and Captain Robert Withers during or after the Civil War??? Peggye, please email me privately and lets exchange info. I have transcribed several Bradley County documents executed by Elias King in behalf of Gus Witherington's estate. Also, there was a very close connection between the KING & WITHERINGTON families beginning about 1820 in Conecuh County, AL; maybe before that in Darlington District, SC, as well. I know that Jann Woodward of the Bradley County Gen Society has a Bradley County Obits book listing the obits of Elias & Amanda King and what appears to be two other related Kings. ....Index to the book, Bradley C0. Obits extracted from the Arkansas Methodist Newspaper. Which includes: Amanda King, Chas. D. King, Elias King, Mary King ------------------ Bill, I am sorry but I cannot help you with the Elias King/Witherington connection, but will try to answer some of your questions. Amanda R. Douglass is the sister of my gg grandfather. She is referred to in the diary that was kept by another sister Lucretia, as being in Arkansas. Lexy R. Douglass, another sister, married Wiley J. King. I have assumed that Elias and Wiley are brothers. Amanda and Elias named a child John Wiley and one child Lexie C King. You asked about the parents of Elias and I do have a name but am not sure how good the information is, since this is the only source I have, but in FamilyTreeMaker Vol #4, Tree 1324 his name is given as Jim King. The letter I wrote to the contributor was returned to me. Rebecca Jane King is the daughter of Elias and Amanda. Other known children are Henry, b. abt. 1840, Martha abt. 1844, Lexie C. February 1845, John Wiley abt. 1852, and Margaret Ann abt. 1855. Rebecca J. married (1) William A. Stanford, married (2) William Patton Ault 29 May 1859 in Clark Co., Arkansas. I have corresponded with one the Ault descentants. That is where Margaret Evaline Ault came from. She was born 11 July 1860 in Clark Co., Ar and died in Houston, TX. She married William F. Forrester 2 Nov 1886 in Bradley Co, Ar. He was born 1864 and died in Houston also. A list of children; Charlie L, Willie Pearl, Versis Bea, Carl A., King Earl, and Henry Grady. I have one child listed with Wiley J. King and Lexy R. Douglass; J. Henry King. Note the name Henry following in this line, you could very easily think that the father's name was Henry. Are you related to these Kings or just to Gus Witherington? I will look at the diary again and see if she mentions anything about a riverboat but I do not think she did, I would have remembered that. Sister King has lived near Lanark, in Bradley County, ever since until a few months ago. Sister King joined the Methodist church when she was 10 years old, and was true to her vows through the seventy years following. I notice from the information given about the King family that Elias King has a son John, born about 1852. I wonder if he could be the John W. King, born about 1854, who married my great-grandmother's sister, Ann Louisa Crowell in Bradley County, AR on 29 Jan 1878. I have no information about them after their marriage.
