Samuel Gates was born abt 1816 in AR he was a blacksmith. In 1860 he was living with his wife Elizabeth and 4 children in Gonzales TX. His house is at the Pioneer Village where I work. There are also pictures of some of his family hanging in the house. His Children are: Joseph D Gates, Samuel Gates, Elizabeth Gates & William. Joseph D Gates was in the Civil War supposable one of the first Texans to join the Confederacy.
