I have much of my dad's George Lee Wood) work on the Pennington family (Isaac and Jacob). I am also interested in the Wood and Givens (Thomas Jonah) families. To those doing research on African Americans in Bradley County, I am interested in learning anything I can about the family descendants of those slaves formerly owned by my g-g-g grandfather. Family lore has it that he manumitted his former slaves sometime in the early 1860s, but they "chose" to stay on the old home place. I know no more than that, but am curious and would love to learn anything more. According to Dena Jordan's transcription, there were 22 slaves in 1860, but no record of names. This ggg grandfather was the Carter Wood murdered by carpetbaggers in September of 1865; his grandson, Lee (my g-grandfather) witnessed and told the story later. There is also a letter that I have seen written from the gold fields of California in 1850(?) from I believe Isaac Pennington -- I would like to follow up on this, and see if there is any further trace of him. I have not done much with this, and hope to go through and familiarize myself with information, and begin to fill in holes. For anyone interested in archival research, I am within two miles of a branch of the National Archives and records Administration, and have a spare bedroom for researchers. -- Bill Wood -- woodbill@rcn.com On Jan 10, 2008, at 11:27 PM, arbradle-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
