I recently ordered and received a CW tombstone for my gg-uncle, James Atlas O'Neal who is buried at Ebenezer. My question is this - his old marker is broken into several pieces and will more than likely be lost in the future. We discussed repairing it, but didn't think it was worth it. Anyway, I want to know what should be done with the broken pieces. His name is readable etc and I hate to throw it away. I don't know of any direct descendants researching the family or I would contact them. If any of you ever thought about ordering a military stone from the VA, I would advise you to do so. We're impressed with the marker and it only took about three weeks to get it. Jann
Do you mind sharing what it would cost? -----Original Message----- From: arbradle-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:arbradle-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of bjw Sent: Saturday, May 10, 2008 1:36 PM To: ARBRADLE@rootsweb.com Subject: [ARBRADLE] grave markers I recently ordered and received a CW tombstone for my gg-uncle, James Atlas O'Neal who is buried at Ebenezer. It doesn't cost anything other than a stamp on the request! The one I got weighs 113 lbs. and the VA even pays the shipping. An 18-wheeler delivered it to our house yesterday and that was a tight squeeze! This region receives them from Columbus Marble Works in MS. The only thing one has to do is send proof of service. I didn't have his actual service record so I just sent his proof of service and his widow's application for pension, and it worked. I had his full name, DOB, DOD and Co. he served in engraved on the stone. There is a certain form to be fill out. Anyone who served in the US Service without a marker or a badly damaged marker can order one of these. There are also several choices one can make. I chose the flat marble. edianegardner <edianegardner@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Do you mind sharing what it would cost? -----Original Message----- From: arbradle-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:arbradle-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of bjw Sent: Saturday, May 10, 2008 1:36 PM To: ARBRADLE@rootsweb.com Subject: [ARBRADLE] grave markers

The form you need is number 40-1330. This can be obtained on line at www.va.gov/vaforms It gives instructions on how to fill out the form. If you have any problem or need any help with the application, let me know. Jann EUGENE HART <jeffiemh@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Jann, who do you contact to get a CW marker.
