    3. Peggy Bowman let me pilfer around some of her old newspapers while I was in Warren a few days ago and I found a page from Swift's Flying Eagle dated 1885. There was an obituary for a Hall who is buried in Hall/Wardlaw Cemetery. He is listed as J. A. in the old cemetery book, and is listed as J. H. in the new book. Farmville Sept 20th, 1885: Died at his residence in Bradley County, Ark. Sept 14th 1885, __H. Hall in his thirty ninth year. The subject of this notice was born in Howard county Tenn. and came to Ark. with his father when he was quite young. He was riased and educated in Bradley county. Married Maj. John Ederington's daughter, whom he leaves with four children, and a host of friends to mourn his untimely death. He was a consistent member and ____in the Primitive Baptist Church. He was prompt in giving to the cause of the advancement of the educational interest of the county, and in particular the community in which he lived will sadly miss him. He was a devoted husband and father and was always ready to contribute to the comfort and welfare of his family. The people throughout this vicinity extend to the bereaved family the sympathyes [sic] in this their extreme sad affliction. --------------------------------- Choose the right car based on your needs. Author: DawnDPetz Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.bradley/3389.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Just wanted to thank you for posting the info on W.T.Clements family bible on this site. I now know he was no relation to me. ha I've been researching a William T.Clemmons/Clemons who moved to Bradley Co sometime between 1900 and 1905 (he paid a poll tax here in 1905)from Pickens Co, Ala, via Pearl River Co., Ms. He was on the Bradley Co 1910 and 1920 census's with his family ( none of which match up with the bible info)and he died sometime between 1920 and 1930, at which time his widow and some of his children moved up to Lonoke Co, Ar. The only reason I had been looking at W.T.Clements was cause the first and middle init matched and because Clemmons/Clemons and Clements get mixed up with each other all the time. I had also thought that although W.T.Clements died in 1917, but W.T.Clemmons was on the 1920 census, this could have been a "white lie" told to the census taker by the widow,Mary, for whatever reason. ha I won't give up searching for W.T.Clemmons/Clemons deathdate and burial place, but since he isn't in the AR Death Records Index, there probably isn't a d.c. for him and I haven't been able to find a burial place for him so far. At least I can rule out W.T. Clements. Thanks! Dawn Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Many thanks to those on the list who have been so gracious to help me in my search for the GILL family. I have received a lot of help from several listers. Perhaps this is only one of the many examples of "good ole Southern hospitality" that our part of the country is famous for. I should add: "so is Alaska". LOL I am still searching for obits on this family. Any ideas? Thanks again, Kate Burton

    3. There still is a Landmark Church across the road from the Gravel Ridge Church and Cemetery. My Grandmother went to church there. I would like to know if there is any mention of Hettie Gorman Vines. Nora On Tue, 24 Jul 2007 18:01:14 -0700 (PDT), bjw wrote > I suppose the 1870 census will always be a mystery. 3. I suppose the 1870 census will always be a mystery. I even looked at the indigent listing and the families I am looking for [some who fought in the CW] were not included and that list was done in 1862-63. We discussed this particular census today at the Saline Co. Library and apparently it was a big problem in all southern states. I am always on the look out for obituaries prior to 1930 and have found lots of obits for Bradley Co. in different newspapers, and today I found another source. Do any of you know of any "Landmark Baptist Churches" in the early 1900s? I found reference to two obituaries for what appears to be located around Ingalls and Gravelridge. I will have to go to the History Com to get the actual obits, but thought these two might connect with someone on the list: Mrs. M. P. A. Clements born Sep 15, 1845 and died Oct 28 1907 at Ingalls. The other one is Mattie C. Black or Mrs. J. T. Black of Hermitage. She died Dec 8, 1907. Apparently there was a Lankmark Baptist paper of some kind, sort of like the Arkansas Methodist and Baptist Newspapers. 1. [ARBRADLE] What happened to land after the civil war?
    2. Anne S. Wise
    3. I've often wondered what went on in Bradley County after the civil war. I found most of my folks in the 1870 census. However, only 3 of 7 children survived the years between 1870 - 1880 in Bradley County. The mother and grandmother died of typhoid, and I'm betting that had an effect on the children as well. Manuel L. Stuart died in 1867 with 240 acres of land near the Smyrna / Sumpter area. He tranferred his land to his two oldest sons, Thomas and James before he died. But by 1895 there was a meager 40 acres. I found some mention in the tax records of unpaid taxes, and there was a deed for some of the land to "Meek & Sadler" but I've always been mystified as to what happened to the (in my mind) huge amount of land he owned. By 1895 Thomas moved to Fordyce, and James moved to Cabot. The younger surviving son, Louis moved to Texas. The tax and deed records of that period just don't seem to cover it all. 3. I also can't find my Senn family in the 1870 census. I have Henry Senn in La in 1860 and can not find him or even one of his family members until I find his son John Wesley in the Arkansas 1880 census.?? _________________________________________________________________ http://newlivehotmail.com
