the Eagle Dem. has issues from Jan 1930 until present. There are a few older issues in the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville archives, but not many. You can send a request with name, exact date of death etc to the Warren Library and they will send you a copy for a nominal charge. They do NOT do research, but will help if they can. Mary Barrett published indexes for 1930-40-50, but I have no idea how many, if any, she has left. As far as I am concerned the indexes are among the most used resources for Bradley Co. Look on the county webpage for that information Have any of you noticed how state libraries and archives have gone up close to 10.00 for a copy of ONE obituary? Even Pine Bluff charges 7:50. And I used to gripe because a birth cert was 2.00 ha . --------------------------------- Shape Yahoo! in your own image. Join our Network Research Panel today!

My husband's grandmother, Inda Anna Veazey Woodard, had a brother, John Amos Veazey born 7 Dec 1880 in Bradley Co. He married Daisy Lathan at Warren. She was born 16 Aug 1880 and died 16 Aug 1950 in Little Rock. To my knowledge they had only one child, Helen Veazey born 8 Oct 1906 in Warren. [side-note - my husband, Lathan, was named after this Lathan family - his dad taught some of the Lathans and he loved the name!] John Amos Veazey died 1 Sep 1934 at Warren. He's buried in Oakland Cem. I cannot find him anywhere in the 1930 census and he certainly isn't with his family according to this: 1930 Pennington Twp Bradley Co.: George C. Morgan age 36 lumber salesman Ruth age 34 wife Mary J. age 9 George C., Jr., age 4 1/12 Helen Veazey age 33 cousin school teacher Daisey Veazey age 49 aunt Ona Caplinger age 33 sis-in-law Orlando H. Caplinger age 71 fa-in-law I know that the daug, Helen, married Frank Webb McGibbony and they had a son named Mike. Was this the same Capt Frank McGibbony who was johnny on the spot when the '49 tornado hit? Was Daisey a Lathan or a Caplinger? The census leads one to think she would have been a sister to Ruth Caplinger Morgan, but I'm not sure. If John Amos didn't die until 1934 then where was he in the 1930 census? Daisey is still listed as "married." One of my mom's best friends was Martha Ede Purcell Sharkey, who was Joe Purcell's sister. She died a few years ago and her husband is living in Florida, along with a daughter of theirs. Mom was also a friend of Joe's, as was my family in Benton-G.G. and Mary Jean. I'm fairly certain I can find them, but they may want to know why you need the family history....are you compiling info. on Fredrick Purcell? I have been asked to write papers/essays on two families who were in Bradley Co in the early 1900's. One family was the Jake and Frances Koppel family that managed a department store named Abroms, I believe they moved to Warren from Dermott where Jake's brother-in-law, Abe Abroms had a department store. The other family is the Fredrick Linton Purcell family. He was brought to Warren as a lawyer for the lumber cos. His grandson was Joe Purcell [born Warren] that was later an attorney here in Benton, then attorney general of the State, then Lt. Gov and acting Gov for a very short time. I know that Joe's mother was Lynelle Cunningham and that her family had a grocery store there. If anyone knows anything about these families or connects with them, please contact me. Looking for anyone descended from John C. Hickman, son of Stephen Hickman and Cindarilla Castleberry. Lately, I have been focusing on finding this family in census and other online records and I would like to correspond with others researching this same line. It seems that at least 2 of John C. Hickman's children had spouses with ties to Vermilion County, Illinois, so I'm trying to figure out how those connections happened. I'll be happy to share what I've been finding on these Hickmans. Looking forward to hearing from others working on this family. Thanks, Melissa

I was told that the calaboose was used to keep the booser for the night when they got pick up by the city police. and the jail was for the someone kept for a week or more.... by the county sheriff. the little street behind the courthouse is First St. Larry ----- Original Message ---- From: bjw <jann_woodard@yahoo.com> To: ARBRADLE@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2007 6:24:43 PM Subject: [ARBRADLE] Map questions I just finished constructing a map [based loosely on the Sanborn maps] of downtown Warren in 1907 and have a few questions. In the block northeast of the courthouse where the old jail was located, there are only two buildings, one the "calaboose" and the larger building "the jail." I thought jail and calaboose was one and the same. Anyone know why there would be two buildings? Also located at the corner of Walnut and Cedar is a "Negro Baptist Church", but it doesn't give the name of it. Also, does that "little" street right behind the courthouse have a name??
